SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Imerys’ Sustainable Development approach is to support its overall strategy by making long-term development possible. A mining group’s long-term future is founded on protection of its stakeholders: employees, shareholders, customers and neighboring communities.

For Imerys, the ability to mine its deposits over the long-term requires the fulfillment of many ethical, environmental and social demands. This has led us to adopt a Sustainable Development approach from the inception of our business. More recently, this approach has been formalized as described in this report. Each employee is responsible for implementing it.

Message from the CEO											Good Initiative
In 2009, a difficult period marked by a major economic crisis, we were able to maintain and even boost our Sustainable Development efforts, allowing us to meet the different objectives we had set. Our efforts on Sustainable Development correspond to a twofold objective. On one hand, they are an absolute necessity in a context where mining activities are only tolerated if they demonstrate excellence in every area.											Local Communities: Coordinating Initiatives
											Since 2008, Pigments for Paper Asia-Pacific follows closely the Sustainable Development activities launched and implemented in the region thanks to the set-up of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee and to the review that takes place during the quarterly meetings of each country manager.
