Asia-Pacific – Coordinating Sustainable Development Initiatives in the Region
Since 2008, Pigments for Paper & Packaging Asia-Pacific follows closely the Sustainable Development activities launched and implemented in the region thanks to the set-up of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee and to the review that takes place during the quarterly meetings of each country manager. As a result of this management commitment, a great number of projects were created reflecting the variety of needs and approaches among the countries in the region. In Australia, for instance, a long drought made water management a key issue, whereas in China and Vietnam projects focused more on educational support, and in India, economic development was the key issue. Priority is given to projects that favor learning over dependence.
It is for this commitment –embodied in the 14 high-quality projects submitted– that the jury for the Group’s 5th Sustainable Development Challenge rewarded the Pigments for Paper & Packaging Asia division with a special prize in 2009. The division, eager to see these initiatives continue, is working on the definition of its action plan for the future. In March 2010, the different teams across the region had an open-house day.
