USA – Disaster Relief for Flood Victims
Imerys Filtration teamed up with the Red Cross to help victims of the January 2009 flood in Fernley, Nevada.
The Imerys plant has been an integral of the community since the 1950s. Aware of the problems residents of Fernley, Nevada, including Imerys staff members’ family and friends, were experiencing due to the flood, members of management felt an obligation to provide assistance during this time of need.
Working with an experienced disaster relief organization facilitated cooperation. Imerys’ initial initiative was to make rooms available for evacuees to have a warm, safe place to stay until waters had subsided sufficiently to allow access to their homes. In order to help the Red Cross’s mission, Imerys also provided significant monetary support.
The Group’s donation to the Red Cross’s disaster relief fund enabled the humanitarian teams to provide hot meals, dry clothes and sleeping arrangements to those in need. Imerys’ staff remained in close contact with city officials to provide additional support when needed.
