France – Ensuring our Coworkers’ Employability in their Community

At the Quartz de Dordogne site (Minerals for Ceramics), which is scheduled for closure, employees have the possibility of cultivating their knowledge for their future careers.

The aim is to help the employees develop basic skills and competencies in order to ensure that they remain employable in the medium term. Thanks to a partnership with the Aquitaine region, Unicem(1) and OPCA(2) Forcemat, an action plan was created. A series of individual tests and interviews was used to assess the needs of 14 workers with a view to the improvement of their reading, writing, arithmetic and IT skills, in line with their career projects.

The first training program has been launched. Additionally, individual support measures will be set up. Most beneficiaries should obtain a professional qualification certificate in the next few years.
