France – Raising Awareness of the Disabled Workforce in the Clay Bricks & Roof Tiles Division

To foster the hiring of disabled people, Imerys TC (Building Materials) launched an awareness-raising campaign among its managers and the Human Resources team. The half-day training session was designed to refute preconceptions and present possible actions. Several operation managers launched initiatives as a result of being better informed.

At Saint Geours d’Auribat, France, for example, the human resources department organized a disabled recruitment fair with the help of workplace inspection authorities. Another 15 local actions are underway; one of them includes the building of recognition files. To qualify as disabled worker, the employee must submit a file to the local administration. The status of disabled worker is obtained for a limited period of time and a level of gravity is given. This initiative offers some benefits to the employee, but it also constitutes a way for the company to adjust schedules and workplace conditions according to the different disabilities.

In addition to employing 64 disabled people in France, Imerys TC also works with several disabled agency workers through the ESAT (Etablissement et Service d’Aide par le Travail), a network that facilitates employment to disabled workers. These structures allow workers with disabilities to practice a professional activity in good working conditions and with social and medical support.
