France – Imerys Learning Center, a Place for Learning and Sharing

Imerys Learning Center was launched in April 2006. Since then, 1651 employees from 30 different nationalities have participated. 131 training sessions have been organized and 30,016 training hours have been given out. The need to strengthen in-house skills and the desire to foster best practice-sharing were the reasons behind the project.

In a decentralized environment, sharing expertise and networking improve knowledge as a whole. The Group Human Resources department has taken a pragmatic approach. It focuses its choices on subjects that can be transposed to all Imerys’ business groups and activities. Training is intended to be cross functional and general-purpose. It reflects line managers’ concerns and conveys key know-how with everyday applications. Courses last a maximum of three days and are given in French, English; Chinese, Portuguese and German.

Three subjects were offered to begin with: “Basics of Geology”, “Finance Fundamentals” and “Annual Performance Appraisals”. Later, “Project Management” and “Indutrial Marketing Essentials”, « Imerys Safety University » were added; and a new subject on “Foundations of management” started in 2012.

Strategy

Our Sustainable Development policy supports the Group’s long-term strategy. Actions are guided by a three-year plan that sets goals for each of our areas of activity. The three-year plan also provides for gradual, continuous performance improvement.

Environmental focus

We work to reduce our environmental impact and use natural resources efficiently. We control our activities’ impact on the environment and set up management systems that allow us to improve our performance continuously.

Social Focus

Health and Safety, Human Resources, Ethic, and dialogue with our neighboring communities are among our main corporate social responsibility priorities.
