The Position

EHS Manager

Job Summary

This position will be applicable to local employment terms and conditions. 

The Role:

  • Represent Imerys PM APAC’s core values of integrity, vigilance, and excellence.

  • Keep driving the safety culture improvement of the plant.

  • Analyze EHS data and information (e.g. EHS laws, regulations, benchmarking studies, industry best practices).

  • Develop Annual EHS Strategies, programs, initiatives and procedures consistent with Imerys Group, PM APAC BA Level and Greater China Hub Level EHS Road Maps, Goals and Objectives.

  • Implement these strategies, programs, initiatives and/or procedures in a timely fashion to achieve both Imerys Group, PM APAC BA Level and Greater China Hub Level EHS Goals and Objectives.

  • Establish close partnership with both internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Governmental Agencies, Customers, Facilities Functional Leaders, HR Partners, Workers Compensation Agencies, Labor Unions, etc.).

  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders regularly on matters related to EHS Laws and Legislations, EHS policies, EHS Best Practices and Safety Alerts and Safety Shares.

  • Notify, Report and Investigate into all injury/illness and incident in accordance with Imerys and PM APAC Incident Management Processes.

  • Review all Management of Changes, Method Statements and Risk Assessments generated by the operations before project execution.

  • Continuously on the look out for sources of EHS risk and develop remediation and mitigation plans proactively.

  • Conduct, support or participate in assigned projects.

  • Additional roles may be assigned from time to time.

The Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, development and implementation of plant EHS policies, programs and procedures in compliance with applicable country, state, and local rules and regulations.

  • Develop, implement and manage plant training programs for supervisors and employees regarding safety practices, incident prevention, compliance management and other EHS programs.

  • Develop and manage the plant EHS budget working closely with the plant operation manager.

  • Support the design review of new projects and modifications to existing processes and facilities to identify and resolve EHS issues, and incorporate lessons learned from prior projects. 

  • Be responsible for project site daily EHS inspection, to ensure project site comply with applicable EHS laws and regulations as well as Imerys EHS policies and procedures. Give weekly safety report separately to civil contractor and installation contractor;

  • Be responsible for Wuhu plant daily EHS site inspection regularly and irregularly; Organize and monitor EHS monthly EHS Self-audit;

  • Support the efforts to secure or renewal of all required EHS permits, licenses and authorizations associated with projects and modifications.

  • Implement and conduct internal review, inspection and/or audit to identify existing or potential EHS hazards and liabilities, determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated and manage the resolution of identified issues.

  • Provide support on recurring EHS compliance obligations, including compliance recordkeeping, reporting, testing, etc.

  • Manage incident investigation and reporting programs and ensure that investigations of accidents and compliance incidents are conducted, documented and reported.

  • Coordinate responsive communication with governmental agencies including information requests, investigations/inspections and notices of violation. Provide support during investigations/inspections of facility inspections by regulatory agencies.

  • Supervise and monitor Wuhu plant waste water treatment and discharge, and solid waste disposal ;

  • Develop emergency reaction plans regarding safety, environment, fire, building etc. and organize relevant drills. 

  • Manage and maintain the Wuhu plant ISO Management System.

The Qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering, safety management or other EHS-related technical discipline from an accredited college/university is required.  Graduate degree is preferred.

  • At least 5 years of experience in EHS.  

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with major environmental regulatory and permitting programs addressing subjects including but not limited to: air quality, water quality, hazardous chemical management, industrial safety, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with fundamental health & safety programs including but not limited to Lockout-Tagout-Tryout, Heavy Mobile Equipment, Forklift Safety, Electrical Safety, Hazardous Chemical Management/Process Safety Management, etc.

  • Experience with and knowledge of independent standards organizations and certification programs such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.

  • Experience with integration/implementation of EHS programs with newly acquired facilities/businesses is desired.

  • Professional certification/credentials in the areas of safety management, environmental management, industrial hygiene or engineering that are issued by a recognized professional organization are preferred

  • Demonstrated expertise in the successful delivery of outstanding results through effective EHS program development, implementation and management.

  • Strong "consultant" skills, including the ability to influence and motivate leaders and employees through collaborative engagement and building/maintaining relationships.

  • High energy, motivation and commitment to take personal ownership of issues and drive them to exceptional outcomes.

  • Fluency in the English is preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information to a broad range of people and audiences as circumstances dictate.
