The Position

Production Manager

Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Management lead for the production and industrial processing of halloysite (kaolin), production scheduling, finished goods stocks, logistics dispatch, production quality and ancillary processing activities at Matauri Bay to ensure that customer and market requirements for quality, consistency, volume and on time dispatch are met. Deliver with zero accidents, on time within targeted quality and costs objectives. In addition to drive continuous improvements in all areas of the operations.

 

Support the Industrial Hub Director to develop the Matauri Bay operations by contributing to strategic projects, technical support and adapting to changes in business needs. 

Deliver Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality programmes and initiatives to achieve statutory compliance and meeting Imerys standards.

JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS

  • Processing 7,500-10,000DT annually of finished goods.

  • Ensuring optimum mine feed of 30-40,000m3 annually.

  • Dispatch of 375-500 containers annually of finished goods.

  • Variable Cost Production excluding freight >$2M.

  • Process team of #11FTE.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for Environment, Health & Safety performance and compliance within the process, laboratory, finished goods stores and logistics functions ensuring safety best-in-class standards are achieved.

  • Manages all aspects of the production process across the site incl. processing, production planning, inventory control, procurement of consumables, cost control, process maintenance priorities (mechanical and engineering), warehousing, industrial projects / capex, process improvement, quality, energy consumption optimization and continuous improvement initiatives, in close coordination with Industrial Hub Director and PM APAC Centre of Excellence.

  • Identify processing faults and initiate their repair or improvement.

  • Ensures products are manufactured and delivered on schedule, and within quality standards and cost objectives.

  • Develops the site process plan in coordination with Hub Director and with the support of PM APAC Co.

  • Leads optimization in process areas to address competitiveness / demand requirements, incl. capex execution, flexibility and reduction of lead-times,  productivity / energy consumption, cost reduction / continuous improvement (operational excellence) programs, in coordination with Hub Director and PM APAC CoE

  • Key interfaces: ensures tight coordination on site with Industrial Hub Director, Engineering and Quarrying, Sales & Logistics Coordinator, EHS Manager and Finance. Externally to Industrial the Business Planning / Supply Chain team, CoE & Purchasing teams and is supported by Finance & HR Business Partners

  • Compiling process and cost reports for Industrial Hub Director to document performance. 

  • Presentation of monthly process reports detailing performance against defined Key Performance Indicators.

  • Preparation and delivery of annual process budgets and interim forecast updates.

OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS

  • Continuous improvement of Safety performance (TIFR & LTA).

  • Customer satisfaction with delivered OTS, lead-times, Quality results.

  • Process employees and contractor engagement and satisfaction.

  • Year on year net cost reduction & productivity improvement and respect of budget.

  • Continuous improvement performance (I-CUBE).

  • Proactive involvement and contribution to CSR projects.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Key competencies

  • Recognized management skills (ability to manage diverse teams)

  • Good knowledge of all process aspects (Safety, Production, Quality, Cost, Process, Procurement, Capex…)

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of process equipment and its operation

  • Ability to track operational costs and adapt cost management to business changes +/-.

  • Demonstrated capabilities of reaching cost reduction and productivity by promoting a continuous improvement mindset

  • Strong statistical analysis of business practices

  • Multitasking skills

  • Crisis management

  • Customer-oriented mindset 

  • Ability to manage and facilitate diverse teams operating on shifts

Ideal background / experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in process, industrial manufacturing management, experience of customer -oriented organization. Kaolin processing experience would be a significant advantage.

  • Good level of English  

  • Mining, Engineer or equivalent
