The Position

Deputy Site Manager

Job Summary

Job Scope:

The Site Manager Deputy will assist the Site manager/managing Director  in all aspects of the management of the site including production planning, logistics, maintenance with a specific focus on the Quarry and Process.

He/she will strive to improve product quality, technical & economical performance on a continuous basis, develop the required qualification of its staff and act in compliance with environment and health and safety regulations.

Job Scope/Dimensions:

  • Part of Performance Minerals EMEA Business Area

  • PM EMEA industrial footprint: 80 sites in 24 countries - 3700 employees - €1.2b revenue.

  • The role is reporting to the Site manager of Monte Sparau.

  • Annual capacity  : 100.000 MT of extracted and processed minerals per year 

  • Manpower of 20 employees for plant ,  quarry and loading operations; Mining & maintenance  subcontracted

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

EHS

  • Ensure all Environment, Health and Safety aspects required by local and company regulations, including all applicable mandatory Code of Practices, risk assessment programs, occupational hygiene programs and any other programs required to ensure effective health and safety management for the site.

  • Maintain and encourage a safe work environment at all times

  • Contribute in strengthening the safety culture in the organization

People Management

  • Lead the mine and process operations team in order to ensure that the team is focused and performant, delivering key priorities to include, but not limited to,  high quality provision, high standards of health and safety and good communication. 

  • Lead, train, mentor, motivate and discipline when appropriate the team members to improve their skills and competencies and drive employee engagement to fulfill business needs

Quarry Management

  • Prepare operational plans for the mine, monitor and report progress

  • Responsible for day to day planning and coordination of operation, workers, equipment and supplies

  • Responsible for the daily schedule of work/rotas/shifts

  • Support and track the production of the mine from the processing of raw materials through to the shipping/extraction/piping out of the mined product

  • Apply the mining and processing techniques necessary to satisfy company budgets

Budget & Reporting

  • Contribute to prepare production and operating budgets, and report performance and costs

  • Develop and utilize KPIs for decision making. 

  • Set and monitor budgets and expenses and ensure that costs are controlled

  • Maintain accurate data/records/documentation as required

  • Responsible of all required reporting on his/her perimeter

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee process and providing appropriate instruction to designated team

  •  Focus on debottlenecking, yield improvements, operating efficiency improvements, and product quality improvements. 

  • Be responsible for completing pilot scale trials and applying engineering principles for process scale-up to industrial scale

  • Find & implement ideas to improve the profitability of various processing units 

  • Define major investment opportunities to expand capacity or improve yield and efficiency

  • Apply the Continuous Improvement Charter

  • Fully understand and continuously improve the production processes by applying Lean Manufacturing methods and Industrial Continuous Improvement systems.

  • Lead and roll out continuous improvement processes / methodologies to develop lines performance

Plant Maintenance

  • Supervise the storage, maintenance and use of plant and equipment

  • Contribute to the overall development and maintenance of all projects

Internal & External Relations:

  • Collaborate as required with Italy Hub & BA COE team members (EHS Hub, Continuous Improvement Manager of the Hub, COE process engineers, project managers, Supply Chain Teams, Sales & Marketing teams..)

  • Liaise with team/contractors/suppliers and other stakeholders

  • Engage with local communities and regulatory authorities to ensure company policies are met?

Job Specifications:

  • Geologist or Engineering Degree in Mining or industrial, mechanical or process. 

  • Good knowledge of all operations aspects (Safety, Production, Quality, Process, Capex…) acquired during a first hands-on experience ( 3+ years) within a manufacturing/industrial/mining environment). 

  • Italian & English mandatory
