The Position

Purchasing Manager - China Purchasing Platform

Job Summary


IMERYS has 13 operating plants in China, to produce and sell special minerals products to serve the customers in China and worldwide.

Imerys spends approximately 200 M€/y in China. This spend is done via external suppliers in each plant, which includes raw materials, energy, transportation, chemicals, packing, project investment, MRO and service. All of the categories purchasing are managed by Imerys Purchasing team.

In Imerys, the purchasing business is organized at 4 levels: global category, regional category, BA category and plant purchasing.


  • Raw materials exported from China to meet other Imerys’ demands
  • Machines/equipments/designing exported from china to meet other Imerys’ demands
  • Other items/services exported from china market
  • Purchasing management officer, to facilitate the deployment of improvement initiatives in china
  • Capex purchasing with subordinate of RCM- Industrial Equipment & Services


  • To provide Chinese solutions to all Imerys sites worldwide.
  • Act as primary interface and respected partner to internal stakeholders in the development of purchasing categories and services, from Chinese Market.
  • To implement Imerys purchasing policy and procedures for all transactions, and ensure the compliance with Imerys Policy and purchasing Policy.
  • To identify the potential opportunities from Chinese market to meet the needs of other Imerys sites, from raw materials, packing, chemicals, spare parts, service, consumables and projects.
  • To support and capture the needs from Imerys, by providing better TCO solutions from Chinese market, and promote such solutions.
  • To qualify the Chinese vendors and develop the qualified vendor list for all of the potential categories
  • To lead RFQ and lead the commercial negotiation in china, into the whole RFQ process of the Imerys purchasing cycle
  • To lead and coordinate the qualification process of Chinese suppliers, per other RCM/GCD’s request.
  • To support to handle the procurement/exporting process to have a smooth supply chain
  • To elevate the performance, on quality, reliability, on-time delivery and so on.
  • To collect, provide and monitor the Chinese market intelligence to anticipate the market and support the decision, including macro economy and the specific upstream and downstream products which are the consequence of the new change; To provide marketing information to help define specifications of industrial product or service to purchase, and to open new potential sources 
  • To continuously improve the professionalism of the purchase team. Be accountable for improvement plan and annual objectives, quarterly review, monthly and event based reports 
  • To ensure the team members to reach specific objectives and improve performances under his/her supervision - 
  • To lead and roll out the initiatives launched by Global and/or regional team (such as STEP, kill-mono source, TEAM, supplier summit, bottom-up reporting, ESG, etc), and ensure the effectiveness and efficiency in china
  • To provide reliable reporting (spending, payment and/or savings) at china level on a regular basis.


  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in purchasing, with >3 years of team management. Low-cost country sourcing experience is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or Business - Master’s in Business, Industrial or consulting background is a bonus.

  • Project management skills: organized, time conscious, result oriented 
  • Autonomous, creative, rigorous
  • Fluent English/ Chinese mandatory
