Imerys Aluminates Limited - West Thurrock, Purfleet
Role overview: POSITION ASSIGNMENT
To manage the planning and implementation of engineering projects at West Thurrock.
REMARKS CONCERNING POSITION'S FRAMEWORK
The incumbent operates within the overall policies, guidelines and management structure of Imerys Aluminates Limited. The incumbent reports to the Plant Manager.
Reports To: Plant Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Manages all projects, studies and project requests by following established project management methods and procedures. Ensures that all projects are completed according to the original objectives and commitments. These projects will include mechanical, electrical and civil works.
Maintains strong links to the process engineering and maintenance functions, ensures that functional specification of the project is adequately represented in the preliminary costing and specification.
Has responsibility for budget preparation and adherence
Manages the Capex purchasing process, ensures a smooth “as signed” execution of the purchase orders by the presence of appropriate documents like the commercial contract, purchasing conditions, payment terms, etc.
Maintains a strong link with the core projects manager and the central Capex purchaser for those Capex purchases which evoke his involvement
Has responsibility for both internal and external reporting on projects management including the maintenance of electronic reporting tools, SAP. Contributes and takes the lead in updating the site investment programme. This will include providing estimates of cost, scope and timing of projects; Participating in the development of the plant capital and maintenance expenditure plan; Compilation of a 5 year strategic capital expenditure programme.
Is responsible for preparing proposal drawings, general arrangements, designs, as-built drawings, P & ID’s, electrical diagrams and plant process layouts using AutoCAD or other appropriate and available· Responsible for preparing proposal drawings, general arrangements, designs, as-built drawings, P & ID’s, electrical diagrams and plant process layouts using AutoCAD or other appropriate and available package.
Manages drawings in both paper and electronic format to ensure quick and easy reference as well as revision control on as-built drawings.
Manages others involved in the project including Imerys Aluminates employees, seconded Imerys Aluminates maintenance personnel, contractors and other temporary personnel.
Provides adequate documentation and files to be used by the different operational teams in charge of operating the installed investments (technical documents, running instructions, and specific safety instructions). Maintain all ISO9001:2008, 14001 and 18001 documentation as required, including the writing of procedures.
Ensures that the safety instructions given to contractors and other people working on projects are followed to develop and improve the safety culture on site
Completes the FMEA, preventative maintenance plan, spare parts list, etc.
Health and Safety
Respects all site safety rules including those applicable for the safe engagement of contractors and visitors.
Is actively involved in safety issues on site and undertakes regular safety observations.
Is committed to his/her own safety
Contributes actively to Health & Safety activities
Is committed to developing his/her Health & Safety performance
Does not start a task, or stops each on-going task if he/she feels the situation is unsafe. When possible takes the necessary actions to make it safe.
Carries out and records risk assessments for all work performed by him/her and others under his/her control. Ensure (by regular safety observations and dialogue) that all tasks are performed in compliance with site regulations and procedures such as authorisation to work, permit to work and lock-off.
Quality Assurance - Contributes to and participates in the management, control and continuous improvement of the ISO 9001 standard where required.
Environmental Management
Environmental requirements are becoming increasingly more restrictive. Our ability to identify and adapt our operations and processes to pre-empt the necessity for major capital investment is an essential part of the position. All projects should improve and enhance our capacity to meet all current and future environmental requirements.
Complies with Company Policy and may participate in audits and reviews as required by the Environmental Policy and Systems. Participates in processes and delegated improvement projects as the need arises.

Qualifications/Experience
Essential skills/knowledge
· Professional Engineering Qualification – preferably Electrical, Civil or Mechanical
· Experience of managing Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Automation projects
· Proven experience of driving projects through to completion within planned timescales and budget
· Demonstrable CDM knowledge
· AutoCAD practical experience and ability to make drawings modify and comment on supplier produced drawings
· Ability to work with and challenge (where necessary) colleagues in a professional and constructive manner
Desirable skills/knowledge
Degree qualified
Formal project management qualification
Written and spoken French
Experience of reviewing technical quotations
Ability for accurate cost estimate within industrial projects
Skills & Person Specification
Participation in Group Management - active participation in global forums is necessary to improve communication and knowledge, sharing is strongly encouraged. Informal discussions and communication is highly desirable to achieve a strong network on a global basis
Technically Competent - to identify, design, justify and implement solutions to suit the operational and commercial requirements of the Company’s business, and to confidently manage all aspects of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and civil engineering. This includes: adherence to scope, timeline and budget; quality of the final realisation in term of robustness, ease of maintenance etc; number and quality of the Capital projects completed; the quality and strength of proposals (improvement, optimisation and others)
Financially Astute - must be able to demonstrate basic accounting and spreadsheet skills
A Strong Communicator - must be able to demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills and must be able to communicate complex ideas and concepts to all levels of the organisation. Should show excellent technical leadership and be able to build relationships across functions within the whole company and establish healthy relationships with our key suppliers.
Concern for the quality of products and services - responsible for the effective management of capital expenditure projects from a design, implementation, and commissioning and cost management perspective.
Concern for the Safety of People and Security of Equipment - responsible for maintaining a safe working environment through the safe design of plant and equipment. Has a strong influence on the safety culture in the organisation, with particular responsibility for the safety behaviour of contractors engaged in project work.
