Job Summary

Lostock Control & Electrical Design Engineer

A vacancy exists for a Control & Electrical Design Engineer at our Lostock operations.  The hours of work will be 9.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. The successful applicant will be required to To design, install and maintain electrical and control systems.  To maintain accurate plant drawing records.  To arrange general maintenance and project work if directed to do so.

Key  Activities and Responsibilities

  • Provide control and electrical design consistent with IMERYS standards, Lostock site standards and regulatory requirements. 

  • Plan and execute electrical and control system maintenance. The work includes inspection, auditing, breakdown repair and preventative maintenance. 

  • Identify plant improvements within the electrical and control domain 

  • Supervise and organise small to medium sized projects and to have technical electrical / instrumentation / control input to larger projects as agreed with the Site Process Manager. 

  • Select appropriate control and electrical contractors and manage their activities while they are on site to ensure that works are carried out safely and cost effectively. 

  • Identify suitable suppliers of electrical and control equipment for ongoing projects and maintenance. Place purchase orders for desired equipment

  • Provide technical and administrative support for the operations team, the maintenance team as agreed with the Site Process Manager. 

  • Maintain and update plant drawings, to include PIDs, instrument loop and electrical drawings

  • Respect all EHS accountabilities as described in the EHS policy, EHS plan, EHS objectives and the Quality, Environmental & EHS ISO management systems.

  • Perform duties as Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS), including reporting to the EA & relevant authorities as required.


Skills and Knowledge

Imerys PCC UK Limited is an autonomous entity within the Carbonates EMEA business of IMERYS.

The job holder is a member of the multifunctional Winnofil Plant Technology Team (operations, maintenance, engineering and science).

The job involves responsibility for most of the electrical / control / instrumentation work and has some interface with other disciplines such as maintenance, engineering and process.

The job holder should have an electrical or control engineering degree, and 2-3 years relevant post-graduate experience.  An alternative would be an apprenticeship followed by 10 years supervisory experience in the field of control and electrical systems.

This is a key role which involves troubleshooting and fault finding on an operational process plant. A versatile, flexible approach is required combined with logical, problem solving skills. 

Job holder will be responsible for programming PLC’s including primarily Mitsubishi, but also Schneider & Siemens. Experience of relevant ladder logic is essential. Previous experience on DCS systems is also an advantage.

All engineering activities are managed directly by the plant engineering department. The job therefore requires contact and negotiation with design and installation contractors and equipment suppliers.
