The Position
Technical ManagerJob Summary
Primary responsibility for providing technical leadership and support to all projects with respect to the refractory design for Iron & Steel Industry.
This includes responsibility for raw material selection, material identification, lining arrangements, thermal and mechanical analysis, specifications, vendor selection, quality assurance during fabrication and installation as well as forensic analysis and troubleshooting of existing refractory linings.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate and be the direct responsible for all product definition, technical support and training;
Raw material selection, Refractory lining material selection, thermal and mechanical analysis;
Installation procedures, quality assurance and technical failure analysis on refractory linings;
Define and contribute to project(s) scope, costs and benefits, schedule and implementation strategy;
Technically manage the field installation consisting of a mix of internal resources, consultants, and contractors;
Review and approve drawings; oversee others responsible for update and creation of the drawings;
Steelmaking/Ironmaking process improvement support at customers sites;
On-site project supervision during the construction and installation phases of any trials/new business;
Conduct Project Review Meetings with Sales, Marketing, S&T and Operations for results update and/or solution development;
Assist leadership team through review of the relevant sections of proposals for key projects;
Identify and manage technology improvement, including approved S&T projects;
Identify patentable technology and assist with patent applications;
Assist with marketing of technology, including writing technical papers and participation in relevant industry meetings, workshops and conferences;
Background/ experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering - Metallurgical, Materials Science or Chemical;
Masters or MBA Preferred;
10-15 years progressive experience in technical assistance and product development/management;
Previous experience within any of the following industry: Steelmaking, Ironmaking, Refractories
