Senior Tax Manager

Imerys is hiring a Senior Tax Manager to join our team in our Roswell Corporate Headquarters.

Job Summary
On a day-to-day basis, participates in the management of the following areas:

  • US income tax planning 

  • Acquisitions, dispositions, and reorganizations

  • US federal income tax compliance

  • US income tax accounting and US domestic income tax calculations

  • Periodic income tax provisions 

  • Budget and forecast tax projections

  • Tax audits, risks and exposures

  • Identification and implementation of tax department process improvements

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, direction and review of tax computations required for tax provisions, budgets, and forecasts including where applicable, the computation of the effective tax rate and the maintenance of deferred tax asset and liability detail. Apply income tax reporting guidance under ASC 740 and IFRS.

  • Assist with planning, direction, and review of domestic tax compliance activities including returns and estimated payments to ensure that filings are accurate, timely, and meet the requirements for various taxing jurisdictions.

  • Identify tax saving strategies and planning opportunities, conduct necessary analysis and evaluation, and develop recommendations to minimize US tax liabilities as well as the related effective tax rates.

  • Develop recommendations for mergers and other reorganizations to aid the Business Units with their goal of structure simplification while also minimizing tax liabilities and the related effective tax rates.

  • Provide recommendations regarding proposed business transactions including acquisitions and dispositions.

  • Interpret current and proposed tax laws to ensure compliance where applicable and obtain tax savings where possible.

  • Provide tax advisory services to the Business Units and general management on issues as they arise.

  • Assist Senior Tax Manager- International Tax with planning, direction, and applicable international tax compliance.

  • Assist with planning and management of all issues related to US tax examinations. This will include interacting with examination agents in establishing examination guidelines and procedures, coordinating appropriate responses to information requests, defending Company positions, and negotiating and resolving examination issues.  This will also include the implementation of appropriate corrective action to reduce exposure for future examinations.

  • Identify and implement best tax practices to improve the effectiveness of the Tax Department.

Skills and Attributes Requirements

  • Proven understanding of complex tax laws, issues and concepts as well as a working knowledge of accounting principles.

  • Ability to research and analyze tax law and apply problem solving skills to determine correct tax treatment on issues.

  • Ability to self-manage and work with limited direction as well as demonstrate initiative and project ownership.

  • Strong organizational skills needed to manage multiple projects and meet compliance deadlines under pressure.

  • Ability to develop and lead an effective team including hiring and mentoring staff.

  • Position has significant interaction with various high-level personnel in other departments such as treasury, finance, human resources, fixed assets, sales and operations, along with outside consultants.  Accordingly, the Senior Tax Manager must demonstrate strong written, communication, people and teamwork skills.

  • Good computer skills are necessary for usage of corporate tax research and tax provision software, as well as other software for spreadsheet, memorandum and correspondence preparation, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting

  • Successful US-based candidates must be fully Covid-19 vaccinated before the employment start date unless exempted by applicable law.

  • Masters degree in Accounting or Tax, preferred

  • CPA and/or JD

  • At least 7 years of corporate tax experience, preferred

  • 5 + years supervisory experience, preferred

  • “Big 4” or equivalent public accounting and/or in-house multinational corporate tax experience, preferred. 

  • Excellent computer skills – Experience with tax provision/preparation software (OneSource, CorpTax, and/or Longview); working knowledge of Excel/Word.
