The Position

Mining Exploration and Resource Manager

Job Summary


The Exploration and Resource Manager in collaboration with the local teams ensures the ongoing access to high quality and sustainable raw materials for the Refractory, Abrasives & Construction (RAC) Business Area’s (BA) operations. 

The Exploration and Resource Manager is responsible for defining and reporting the Refractory, Abrasives and Construction Business Area’s Mineral Resources.



Part of the Business Area Refractory, Abrasives & Construction (RAC) Center of Excellence (CoE) Mining & Resources Planning.

RAC  industrial footprint: 39 sites in 15 countries - 4095 employees - €1.1 bn revenue.

Within the RAC CoE Mining & Resources Planning Team the scope is primarily to manage exploration planning and resource estimation under the leadership of the competent person(s). 

On top of the CoE role, the applicant will have the responsibility to provide technical support to Imerys’ mining sites in France, Ukraine, Hungary.

Ability to travel up to 40% of his/her time.


Managing geological projects and assets:

  • Planning and managing all aspects of mineral resource definition including infill drilling projects and  greenfield exploration projects.

  • Monitor and review ongoing exploration programs to ensure that the defined objectives are met (schedule and budget), and that any significant program deviations are communicated to management.

  • Designs and manages geological and mineral evaluations (quality/quantity) while providing assistance to site geologists for mapping and modeling.

  • Provides support to the mine planning leader for effective mining production, reconciliation and restoration of mineral assets.

  • Actively participate  in the Mineral Resource reporting process, under the leadership of the competent person(s). 

Reinforce Imerys geological knowledge:

  • Generation of background information on known resources/reserves mineral deposits as required.

  • Assessment of external raw material supplies as required.

  • Ensure any work related to the estimation of Mineral Resources is undertaken in compliance with the PERC reporting standard.

  • Proactively identify & implement new technology and/or processes (e.g. mining 4.0 / advanced geostatistics / IA in modeling…)

  • Facilitate the utilization of digital systems in the Sites, such as cloud-based modeling platforms (Leapfrog / Sequent Central), GIS (ArcGIS online) and data management systems (Acquire, datashed etc).

  • Facilitate collaboration within the team and other geology groups within IMERYS.

  • Leading the BA participation in geoscientific research programs with Universities or other external  institutes related to mineral potential and exploration.



Background/experience required:

  • Geologist or Mining Engineer with relevant experience in Mine and Exploration Geology.

  • Proven experience in exploration and geological modeling with strong field exposure. Any additional  mine planning, geotechnics or mining operations experience would be a plus 

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a geology professional in a mining environment. Industrial minerals experience will be viewed favorably.

  • Knowledge of at least 2 industrial minerals (geology, mining, processing and markets).

  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and facilitate work at all levels (peers, superiors, plant teams). Ability to influence without direct line management. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with different timelines.

  • Operational English is required; French will be viewed favorably (at least technical terms).

  • Familiar with a broad spectrum of exploration methods (geophysics, geochemistry satellite spectral analyses and remote sensing) and their  applicability to  different types of  deposits.

  • Proficient in mining and geology software (Surpac, Leapfrog), database management system (AcQuire, DataShed, MX deposit…), GIS suite (ArcGis or QGIS) and  Microsoft/Google Suite (Excel, Sheets). 

  • Demonstrable experience in statistical, geostatistical analysis and in using various interpolation techniques

  • Coding experience will be viewed favorably (R, Python, Visual Basic). 

Site based : 

Clérac - France (17) / 2 days per week home office possibility / Frequent travel in Europe.
