The Position
Mining Engineer – GeotechnicsJob Summary
Location: IMERYS Bauxites | Fokida
Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation and development of the site Ground Control Management Plan and ensure that Mine Operations are adhering to the guidance and requirements outlined in it.
Evaluate mine designs in terms of stability analysis, mining sequencing and ground support, ensuring the stability of underground workings, maximizing safety and minimizing geotechnical related risks for the production targets.
Support the Mine Design Engineer by 2d-3d modelling the rock-mass behavior under the implementation of the designed mining methods. Review, update and optimize geotechnical design guidelines for mine planning requirements.
Review and re-model of Mine designs and current mining practices-methods to ensure geotechnical risk/hazards are identified and designed works and ground support is appropriate for the local ground conditions.
Address geotechnical issues documented in the ground failure incident logbook and run back-analyses of the failure incidents in the Mines to identify the failure mechanisms, obtain important information on the rock-mass properties and evaluate if actual conditions are reconciled against the design parameters.
Supervise and undertake the sampling from Mines and Exploration Drilling core, for rock-mechanics testing.
Propose the installation of monitoring instrumentation. Data interpretation and reporting.
Perform regular inspections of underground workings, rock-mass characterization, as well as utilize geological and structural information to proactively assess ground control risk and ensure ground support systems are adequate to mitigate geotechnical risks/hazards.
Participate in weekly production planning meetings and site inspections to provide geotechnical input and specifically advise on geotechnical risk considerations and mitigation measures.
Perform quality control audits of ground support installation, assessment of pull tests, torque tests, shotcrete strength tests, to verify the effectiveness of ground support.
Requirements
Mining Engineer with more than 3 years in the underground mining industry in positions with relative experience. Post graduate studies in the field of geotechnics will be considered positively.
Experience in Geotechnics is mandatory.
Very good knowledge of Greek and English, both written and oral.
Strong geotechnical skills with sound principles in rock mechanics.
Experience with geotechnical software packages and modelling
Motivated self-starter, with a high level of initiative.
Physical and emotional capability of working in an underground mining environment.
Exhibit a strong focus on safety in all aspects of work.
Very good organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
