The Position

Job Summary

Mine Manager - Milos

Reports to: Hub Director - Milos


Lead and manage all activities at the mine for safe, sustainable, efficient, and profitable operations at the site.


Part of the Business Area Performance Minerals EMEA which scope is: 80 sites in 24 countries - 3700 employees - €1.2b revenue.



Mining Operations:

  • Be responsible for the Safety of the employees, mines and equipment, in compliance with Greek law, Imerys safety regulations, policies and procedures including compliance with all environmental permits.

  • Ensure the uninterrupted plants supply and meet volume and quality targets

  • Oversee location ore control program that involves identification, planning and stockpiling of ore that will satisfy plant production and quality control requirements.

  • Confer with management personnel to establish production and quality standards, create safety, health, environmental and quality objectives, and develop budget and cost controls

  • Manage and coordinate the capital planning process to ensure timely and optimal use of capital, in meeting production requirements and Company goals.

  • Apply knowledge of mining operations and/or engineering principles participating to improvement of ideas and resolution of problem areas.

  • Directly manage Mine Supervisors and Engineers, and through them their staffs, ensuring their professional development, managing their performance according to established objectives and responsibilities, and delegating authority as required.

  • Be responsible for budget, cost, CAPEX and monthly reporting

  • Perform other duties as assigned (coordinate planning and activities coordination for engineering, environmental team, mine and geology, outside suppliers and contractors, manage visits by officials, make presentations to executives management, employees and externals...)

  • Ensure long term and strategic development of the mine through direct management of the site’s mineral reserves and resources

  • Work closely with the Business Unit or Division Resource Planning teams


Regulatory & Community Relations

  •  Ensure sustainable development and optimization of resources, regulatory compliance, community and fair labor relations.

  • Ensure compliance with, renewal and application of all necessary mine operating and environmental permits

  • Ensure proper community relations (neighbours, communities, local stakeholders) 


Inside the company 

  • Frequent interactions with the functions of the mine: Production, Maintenance, Lab, etc.

  • Frequent interactions with hub functions (I Cube, Controlling, EHS, …)

  • Link with the production plants close to the mines


Outside the company

  • Link with authorities and supervising bodies

  • Networking with neighbors, local stakeholders

  • Link with suppliers

  • Link with contracted companies on site


Education and Experience requirements:

  • 5+ years’ experience of mining operations

  • 3+ years of supervisory/management experience

  • Degree in Mining Engineering, in Geology or Geotechnical Engineering. Civil and Environmental Engineering with mine operations experience will be considered


Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics:

  • Geology knowledge and experience

  • Survey knowledge and experience

  • 3D mining software experience (AutoCAD, and one of the following: Minesight, Surpac, Vulcan or Datamine)

  • Project Management experience

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with people from all levels of the organization, vendors and customers,

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks effectively and to meet deadlines,

  • Technical knowledge of mining and mining equipment,

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP systems is desirable

  • Good leadership, interpersonal, organizational skills with the ability to effectively supervise diverse work groups

  • Fluent in spoken and written Greek and English
