The Position
Industry 4.0 - Group data scientist (On-Site / Remote)Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
You will be responsible for extracting the value from the data, working in a close collaboration with the operations teams and interacting with IT/data engineers and Business teams. You will be using data-driven techniques to solve business-related problems selected from different domains (process, quality, supply chain…) and identifying the opportunities that allow the teams to better understand, automate and improve processes and performance by exploiting data and creating (or updating) machine learning algorithms. You will participate in the case selection, identification of business needs, implementation of models and validation of impact.
You will also support the teams and metier experts to better understand the data science and artificial intelligence approach to ensure the adoption of developed solutions. You will be a key contributor to the upskilling of our teams through the presentation of projects results, sharing successes and return of experience, and participating in benchmarking to bring relevant information and accelerate the development of this topic within the company.
JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS
You will be part of the Group Center Of Excellence (COE), within the continuous improvement department, and a key player in the Industry 4.0 team, responsible for the definition and realization of the digital transformation of our operations in Imerys: more than 16000 employees, 230+ sites in 45+ countries.
Initially the scope is focused on the pilot site, in Belgium, which will allow us to validate the model of Imerys factory of the future to extend the program to other strategic sites in the group. The position will require your presence in the pilot site to understand the operations and business problems to be prioritized and improved applying advanced technologies.
You will report to the Group Industry 4.0 program manager, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team (data engineer, designers UX/UI, network and security engineers, ...).
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop analytical solutions from creation until delivery of code and models, then dig in on it to bring meaningful insights that are interpreted with the operations teams to translate the results into actionable plans.
Work with the operations and IT data team to develop/implement data collection tools and data mining, sometimes need to collect from external sources
Improves in-house data collection procedure, bring expertise and feedback to the central and local IT/OT teams
Collaborate with operations and business teams to validate tools and solutions developed, assure the utilisation of it by final users and measure the impact on the business KPIs
Assure updates and adjustments for new deployments in other processes steps and sites
Communicate effectively with the project teams, involving IT and operations
Manage and transfer the knowledge through documentation and presentations (training, workshops, seminars, posts)
KEY COMPETENCIES & BACKGROUND
Skills requirements
Degree in Engineering school with a master and experience in data science, or in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Operation research, Physics, PhD is a plus .
+3 years professional experience in data science, with proven achievements in data science projects, from the business case selection phase, through the prototyping and implementation of the models
Ideally you have an experience in fields similar to Imerys’ in the process industry would be a plus (minerals processing, chemistry, glass, cement, steel, pharma or food).
Strong on AI techniques (machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, Computer Vision)
Strong analytical skills.
Problem solving oriented.
Machine Learning workflows automation - ML pipelines
Programming and development for data science
Experience with databases (SQL, AWS redshift or other,), programming experience (Python and R,) ML Tools and libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, Keras, pandas, numpy, matplotlib, seaborn, MLflow), CUDA is a plus.
Knowledge on big data frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, …) would be a plus
Ability to understand business requirements
Capacity to elaborate precise and synthetic documents
Ability to describe analytic processes from start to finish in your area of expertise
Team player, ability to work with colleagues across operations sites
Willingness to travel and work with team on site
Languages: professional proficiency in English and French, a third language will be a plus
Travels : up to 50% during the first year
