Industrial Project Director

Job Summary

We are looking for an 

Industrial Project Director

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Delivers the project in scope, budget, and quality with a strong focus on Safety

  • Develop CER (Capex Expenditure Request) dossiers according to Imerys protocols and engineering standards.

  • Defines project execution strategy and project execution plan. Implement stage gate process and associated engineering deliverable lists, supervise contracts with external engineering companies in close coordination with the Purchasing Team and mobilize ad hoc resources.

  • Monitors engineering development

  • Brings engineering expertise when needed and ensures safe design.

  • Checks compliance to established procedures or protocols, and challenges soundness of various assumptions

  • Prepares steering committee for assigned projects

  • Follow the construction on site with strong focus on EHS

  • Ensure implementation of efficient project control and reporting, and taking corrective actions

  • Supervise all engineering, procurement, construction, activities of the project. Ensure coordination with permitting activities.

  • Ensure general technical project coordination and communication among the project stakeholders, both internal (process & technologies, operations, maintenance, quality, HSE, purchasing, finance…) and external (engineering office, suppliers, contractors, third parties…).

  • Support and challenge business, operations & technology groups in defining business cases and alternatives.

  • Conduct engineering studies, including appropriate tendering, prepare the CAPEX documentation (budget within +/- 10% accuracy) and request project approval(s).

  • Prepare a comprehensive project management plan, including risk analysis and master schedule showing key milestones and critical paths.

  • With the assistance of purchasing, qualified engineering, suppliers & construction firms, develop RFP/RFQ's, evaluate bid proposals, and place recommendations.

  • Prepare and present the project status to the steering committee.

  • Ensure HSS&E matters (design, construction, and start-up) of the project are managed at the highest standards in compliance with laws and company policies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 20 years’ experience in industrial project management (design and execution phase) as leader in fields similar to Imerys’ (heavy process industry, ideally continuous operations, handling and physical treatment of minerals). Experiences in similar businesses but still in heavy industry are welcome (glass, cement, steel, chemistry). 

  • Experience in large projects for example big revamping projects (>500 workers) within operating plants with coordination responsibilities

  • Master’s degree or Equiv. in engineering – A level university

  • Have safety (process, occupational…) as his first priority when developing design and organizing/following construction work from the conceptual phase until start-up.

  • Strong Leadership (in a matrix organization and by influence) and the ability to build relationships

  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency to define supervise lead and coordinate procurement, engineering and construction activities for major capital project (>40m€)

  • Ability to develop execution strategies and project execution plans, mobilize and structure ad hoc resources in different engineering fields and project support Documentation control, Cost and Schedule)

  • Skills to scrutinize solutions and propose optimized answers using technical-cost approaches.

  • Can easily identify gaps to the project strategy and propose solutions. 

  • Have an easy communication toward the Imerys reference plant experts

  • Comfortable with work in international environment

  • Fluent English for oral, read and written communication. French would be a plus

  • Familiar with process activities in the frame of CAPEX projects particularly when working with external engineering companies in a structured way like PID’s reviews, 3D Model reviews, HAZOP reviews.

  • Experienced in implementing robust project control tolls (EHS KPI; documents, cost, schedule, risks management) for industrial projects

  • Familiar with basic Microsoft Softwares like EXCEL, WORD, Power Point, PDF and working with Google Drive, or similar tools like SharePoint, PIRS.
