Industrial Projects Manager

Job Summary

CONTEXTE

Part of the Imerys Group, the world leader in mineral-based specialties for industry,
Performance Minerals EMEA Business Area is leading a project, so called EMILI, to valorize
Lithium-Ion European resources
The Project Manager will lead end-to-end (from project definition to mechanical completion)
capital industrial asset projects within Europe, with a primary focus on our EMILI project in
France. She/He will lead (in the matrix) a multidisciplinary team towards the technical project’s
cost schedule and scope targets achievement.
The Industrial Project Manager will also contribute to the development of our project
management team, system, and engineering/projects standards.

  • Paris, Headquarter (Partial Home Office could be considered)
  • Spot Mobility abroad to supervise Engineering Company (Canada), although based in Paris

JOB SUMMARY
The Industrial Project Manager is responsible for the execution of industrial projects for PM
EMEA starting from the conceptual process design through detailed engineering to the
execution and project start-up.
EMILI (500 m€+ ) is a 5/7 year development Project in Lithium extraction and refining for
Lithium-Ion Battery. This position aims at supporting the development of the first development
phase (Industrial Pilot ca 50 m€) and prepare the execution of the commercial plant. Process is
currently under R&D phase

KEY TASKS &RESPONSIBILITIES

● Delivers the project in scope, budget, and quality with a strong focus on Safety
● Develop CER (Capex Expenditure Request) dossiers according to Imerys protocols
and engineering standards.
● Defines project execution strategy and contracts with external engineering

companies in close coordination with the Purchasing Team and mobilize ad hoc
resources.
● Monitors engineering development
● Brings engineering expertise when needed, and ensure safe design.
● Checks compliance to established procedures or protocols, and challenges
soundness of various assumptions
● Prepares steering committee for assigned projects
● Follow the construction on site with strong focus on EHS
● Check engineering to minimize risks and maximize future results
● Ensure efficient project control and reporting, and taking corrective actions
● Lead all engineering, procurement, construction, inspection, cold & hot testing,
and hand-over activities of the project. Support permitting activities.
● Ensure (technical and managerial) coordination and communication among the
project stakeholders, both internal (process & technologies, operations,
maintenance, quality, HSE, purchasing, finance…) and external (engineering
office, suppliers, contractors, third parties…).
● Conduct all relevant project reviews with the participation of key team members:
design, operability & maintainability, process hazards analysis, constructability…
● Align with IMERYS standards and best practices.
● Support and challenge business, operations & technology groups in defining
business cases and alternatives.
● Conduct engineering studies, including appropriate tendering, prepare the CAPEX
documentation (budget within +/- 10% accuracy) and request project approval(s).
● Prepare comprehensive project management plan, including risk analysis and
master schedule showing key milestones and critical path.
● With the assistance of purchasing, qualified engineering, suppliers & construction
firms, develop RFP/RFQ's, evaluate bid proposals, and place recommendations,
contracts, and purchase orders.
● Coordinate weekly technical project team meetings.
● Prepare and present the project status to the steering committee.
● Ensure HSS&E matters (design, construction, and start-up) of the project are
managed at the highest standards in compliance with laws and company policies.

● Key interactions: Ensures tight coordination with BA Process Leader and main
project stockholders especially with EMILI’s team (R&D, Process, Engineering,
Finance, HR, …)

KEY SKILLS and ABILITIES

● Strong and inclusive leadership
● Have safety (process, occupational …) as his first priority when developing design

and organizing/following construction work from the conceptual phase until start-
up.
● Knowledgeable in engineering disciplines (Mechanics, Electrical & Automation,
Civil Works, Piping)
● Familiar with basic Microsoft Software’s like EXCEL, WORD, Power Point, PDF and
working with Google Drive, or similar tools like SharePoint, PIRS. Basic use of CAD
(Autocad®, CATIA ®) and Project® / Primavera® would be appreciated.
● Project Control and Reporting (EHS, Schedule and Cost)
● Ability to develop execution strategies and project execution plans, mobilize and
structure ad hoc resources in different engineering fields and project support
Documentation control, Cost and Schedule)
● Strong analytical and Synthetic oral and written communication -
internal/external contacts
● Problem solving / results oriented
● Ability to “influence without authority”,
● Skills to scrutinize solutions and propose optimized answers using technical-cost
approaches. Can easily identify gaps to the project strategy and propose solutions

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

● Graduated from a strong Engineering University, Minimum Master and preferably
PMP® certified
● Professional engineer with minimum 20 years’ experience in engineering,
construction, and project management in fields similar to Imerys’ (heavy process
industry, ideally continuous operations, handling, and physical treatment of
minerals). Experiences in similar businesses but still in heavy industry are
welcome (glass, cement, steel, chemistry). Dual experience Greenfield /
Brownfield (kiln or mills reparation, replacement and transformation of process
units to improve safety, reliability, and /or performances)
● Recognized practice in medium to large size (>50m€) international engineering
contracts procurement and management (EPC, EPCm) but also for equipment and
construction works (ie. Civil work and steel structures, Electrical and Automation,
Piping).
● Strong expertise and experience in large industrial project Management (>50m€),
for example big revamping projects (>200 workers) within operating plants with
coordination responsibilities
● Exposure to international and multicultural environment (Expatriation >3 years,
or collaboration with international suppliers like international engineering
companies)
● Planning and organization skills
● Results-oriented, problem-solving mindset and field presence
● Capability to understand and challenge technological, process and operational
aspects of the project

● Skills to scrutinize solutions and propose optimized answers using technical-cost
approaches. Can easily identify gaps to the project strategy and propose solutions
● Knowledge of contract law and procedures, the forms of engineering contract and
procurement strategies.
● Experienced in designing safe and clean trouble free plants, caring for details,
knowledgeable in dust control, gas and water treatments
● Field production experience valuable, Experience in multi-cultural environments
● Fluent English compulsory, any other language skills appreciated
