The Position

Mine Geologist

Job Summary

Bauxite site, Greece

Role overview:

The role of the Mine Geologist is to develop and apply knowledge of the local geological and structural characteristics in mine operations and planning. Additionally, the candidate should be capable of creating and assessing local and regional geological models to support mines development and aid in the identification of potential areas of exploration. 

Reports To: Geology and Mine Planning Manager

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform detailed surface and underground geological and structural mapping in the areas where there is active or planned mining and exploration.

  • Evaluation and interpretation of geological data into local (mine scale) and regional 3d Geological and Structural Models using specialized computer software (Leapfrog, Surpac etc).

  • Support the optimization of the UG exploration program together with the team geologists. 

  • Provide input and specialized knowledge for the updating of the resource, preproduction and production models.

  • Assess the impact of local geological conditions on mine operations, Mine Design revisions and short term Production Planning.

  • Perform evaluation of the rock-mass characteristics based on established schemes along the UG developments of the Mines.

  • Work together with the Surveyors Team to coordinate and optimize the 3d UG survey, mapping and depletion models of the active mines. Use of 3D UG laser scanning software for UG lithological and structural mapping.

  • Participate in the supervision of the Exploration Drilling Program

  • Logging of Core and Chips samples, Core Recording, Core cutting and sampling preparation for Assays

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in Geology (relevant postgraduate studies will be positively considered).

  • 2+ Years of relevant experience.

  • Very good knowledge of English, both written and oral.

  • Computer literacy and the ability to analyze numerical and graphical data (Experience in working with mining and/or geological software will be considered an advantage).

  • Driving license category B (EU).

  • Motivated self-starter, with a high level of initiative.

  • Physical and emotional capability of working in an underground mining environment.

  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of geologists and engineers.

  • Exhibit a strong focus on safety in all aspects of work.

  • Very good organizational, and communication skills.
