Job Summary
IMERYS spends approximately 80 M€/y on Energy in North America. This spend is done via external suppliers in each country, which includes wholesale energy price, transportation, distribution and taxation; all of which require management, performance and knowledge.
Scope
3.5 TWh/y of Energy: through electricity, natural gas, biomass, coal, fuel.
3 Countries: United States of America, Mexico, Canada.
50 industrial plants.
The role will support Group IMERYS Energy Purchasing, working closely with the rest of the energy team, local buyers, operations and technical leaders.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Source Energy for Imerys plants with competitive rate and reliable supply
Negotiate energy contracts and sourcing with proactivity and knowledge
Implement hedging with adapted market monitoring. Ensure price risks are mitigated
Do tariff optimisation for accounts in regulated energy markets (Southern Company, PG&E, etc.). Manage relationships with regulated utility contacts and proactively seek new rate opportunities and available efficiency incentives
Do tax exemptions, subsidies, ensure transport and distribution are optimized
Assist plants and businesses in auditing energy invoices for accuracy
Manage or assist plants in procurement of other local energy sources propane. CNG, diesel, gasoline coal, petcoke, biomass, CHP
Evaluate Demand Response opportunities. Present participation recommendations as appropriate (load shifting, peak shaving, demand response)
Implement alternative energies to decrease cost & carbon footprint: renewables (PPA, certificates), CHP, biomass
Find partnerships for energy asset generation: define and negotiate PPA
Track energy legislation by country
Drive on-going improvements with major providers through Supplier Relationship Management process (SRM), including periodic meetings which include problem solving, cost reduction, maintenance objectives, plant shutdown support, etc.
Identify, manage and execute sourcing projects in energy related areas to drive down costs, optimize rate structures and ensure uninterrupted service to IMERYS’ plant operations
Assisting plants and businesses in auditing energy invoices for accuracy
Working closely with operations/plants, energy providers and consultants to optimize energy consumption through technical projects
Act as a pulse check and voice of the internal customer (mine manager / site manager/operations director) to the on-going category management approach of Energy category
Implement best practices; collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and learning to fuel continuous improvement
Required Experience, Skills & Education
Minimum of 7 years progressive experience in the broad energy sector in North America, with an industrial emphasis; understands global energy drivers
Strong understanding of regulated energy tariff structures
Ability to turn complex data and cost structures into actionable recommendations
Understanding of energy markets in USA, Canada, and Mexico, global drivers, regional issues
Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or Business - Master’s in Business, Industrial or consulting background is a bonus
Strong negotiation skills
Strategy and anticipation thinking / Operational
Pedagogic and capacity to elaborate presentations with impact
Project management skills: organized, time conscious, result oriented
