R&D Analytical Scientist

Job Summary

For our R&D laboratory based in Bironico (Switzerland), we are looking for a

R&D Analytical Scientist

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Development of new analytical methods in the field of materials analytics and trace elements, in collaboration with the local and global teams.

  • Collaborate in R&D product and application development projects covering the analytical aspects.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the analytical capabilities of the R&D and QC team.

  • Identify and propose new analytical methods suitable to improve the characterization of the product, identify suppliers, set-up validation programs, follow-up and documentation.

  • Contribute to the implementation of best-practices in our labs including EHS aspects.

  • Facilitate the collaboration across the graphite and carbon division. 

  • Contribute to the knowledge transfer within the R&D and QC team and to other Imerys departments.

  • Leverage the Imerys labs and resources or external contracted labs in the creation of data to support new product development.

  • Identify and evaluate key parameters for existing or new products so that the data may be used to enhance their material properties and performance.

  • Plan, initiate and manage transversal projects on new or improved analytical methods.


  • Masters degree or PhD in analytical chemistry, chemistry or equivalent fields

  • Strong background in chemistry, experience in trace-elements and material analytics combined with knowledge in material science, knowledge on carbon materials would be a plus.

  • Industrial experience and experience in the handling of chemicals, lab maintenance, lab safety, and safe lab operation as well as experience in project management are preferred.

  • Customer-oriented approach and above average communication skills.

  • Open-minded and curious personality that appreciates cultural diversity and working in an international environment.

  • Good team player with analytical skills and a structural way of thinking.

  • Good interpersonal skills, hands on approach, problem solver.

  • English Fluent

  • Italian, German or French would be beneficial

  • Availability to travel (ca. 10%)
