The Position

Job Summary

Project Description:
Over the course of several months, the successful candidate will spend time at our operating open pit mine in Kings Mountain, NC. The fieldwork portion of the internship will involve geological pit mapping (lithology, grade, and structure) and sample collection (6 to 12” samples). This portion of the internship is expected to take ~2 weeks total duration.

Samples will be weighed (wet), dried, weighed again (dry), and scanned using a 3D scanner. The resulting dry weight divided by volume yields the in-situ density of the material, a critically important factor used in tonnage estimations and reconciliations. The drying, weighing, and 3D scanning portion of the internship is expected to take ~2.5 months.

Learn how to use a 3D scanner for volumetric analysis

Learn how to collect, handle, georeferenced, and prepare samples

Gain experience in real-life operational environments and help develop mine factors
