The Position
Internship - Mechanical Engineering/MaintenanceJob Summary
Project Description:
Individuals may work in the area of Root Cause Analysis, which would involve methodical problem solving around major unplanned outages. The goal would be to understand the root cause of equipment failures and put measures in place to prevent and/or predict such failures in the future in order to increase equipment availability.
Individuals may also work on implementing programs and/or processes for known maintenance best practices using predictive technology like Ultrasound, Infrared and Vibration detection.
Individuals will work with Engineering and Maintenance to develop Preventive Maintenance plans and routes in order to detect failures as early as possible in order to allow time to plan and schedule equipment repairs.
Project Learning Objectives:
Students will learn a great deal about the operation of a large mineral processing operation. They will learn how equipment operates, how equipment fails and what measures can be put in place to extend the run time of the equipment. They will learn about equipment criticality and where to focus the limited manpower of a large maintenance organization. They will also learn how Maintenance interacts and works with other departments in a plant, departments would include Process Engineering, Production, Quality, Safety, Accounting, etc.
