The Position

EHS Field Officer

Job Summary

Environment, Health & Safety Field Officer

Location: St Austell-Cornwall                                                 

Salary: £35,000 - £42,000 per annum  

Hours:  37.5 hours - Monday to Friday - Day shift

Main responsibilities include:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Environmental Health and Safety Field Officer’s team. The main responsibility of the EHS Field Officer is to support and challenge Line Management to develop and maintain a positive and consistent Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) culture, ensuring EHS is firmly part of everyone’s day-to-day thinking and is an integral part of business management and decision making. 

The Field Officer will participate in the common objective of zero workplace accidents and incidents, maintaining a proactive, strong and permanent reporting culture. Providing  guidance and support to assist in the delivery of a quality, co-ordinated and consistent approach to EHS, so that Imerys Minerals Limited (IML) is and remains as a minimum, compliant.

Other responsibilities include:

  • EHS support for identified functional / business teams (Areas of responsibility as defined)

  • Travel to IML sites to provide support / advice. 

  • Development and maintenance of EHS specialisms as may be necessary. 

  • General coordination of EHS matters at a site / functional level.

  • There are no specific budgetary responsibilities, but will be co-responsible with site management.

Ideal Experience:

Demonstrable, competent and applied understanding of EHS Legislation ideally with experience in the extractives industry and an understanding of its associated legislation. 

  • Hold (or be actively working towards), recognised Environmental, Health and Safety Qualifications (NEBOSH Certificate or NVQ equivalent, IEMA Affiliate / Associate). 

  • Maintain verified CPD files to assist in the demonstration of personal competence. 

  • Ability to provide accurate and comprehensive written and verbal reports. 

  • Demonstrable ability to implement practical solutions in a challenging work environment.

  • Effective team player but also able to lead and to work unsupervised. 

  • Good presentation, communication, IT, interpersonal and problem-solving skills 

  • Ability to negotiate and to make decisions within the scope of role without consultation.

  • High level of enthusiasm, commitment and dedication. 

  • Proven ability of working in a challenging working environment with associated changes in work priorities.

  • Able to motivate, coach and communicate over many levels of company structure. 

  • Flexible approach to working hours when required and ability to adapt to changing business priorities. 

  • Full UK (or equivalent) Driving Licence.
