Data Platform Manager

Job Summary

Job Purpose

 The purpose of the Data Platform Manager is to manage and evolve the technical data platforms that support our various data services, such as platforms that host our data lakes, data warehouses, machine learning model runners, data integrations, etc.  This position is also required to explore new platform solutions that: support data growth, improve data quality and performance, and provide new data value capabilities.  In addition, data technology architecture services will be provided to optimize data solution designs.

Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a small, global team of data platform administrators and architects

  • Assign tasks and projects based on team members' skills and expertise

  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for team development

  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment

Platform Management and Evolution

  • Ensure high availability and performance of all in-scope data platforms

  • Develop and implement strategies for platform upgrades and enhancements

  • Monitor and optimize platform capacity to support data growth, including the robust KPI management

  • Implement robust security measures across all data platforms

Innovation and Technology Exploration

  • Research and evaluate new data platform technologies and solutions

  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to improve data quality and performance

  • Stay current with industry trends in data platforms

  • Lead proof-of-concept projects for new data platform capabilities

Service Level Agreement (SLA) Management

  • Establish and maintain SLAs for data platform administration services

  • Monitor and report on SLA compliance

  • Implement processes to ensure consistent service delivery within agreed SLAs

  • Continuously improve service delivery to meet or exceed SLA targets

Stakeholder and Partner Management

  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand data platform requirements

  • Manage relationships with external partners and suppliers

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data platform strategies with business objectives

  • Communicate platform status, plans, and performance to relevant stakeholders

Data Architecture and Design

  • Provide data technology architecture services to optimize solution designs

  • Develop and maintain data platform architecture standards and best practices

  • Review and approve data platform designs and assumptions for new projects

  • Ensure data platform designs align with overall enterprise architecture and security requirements

Continuous Improvement

  • Implement metrics to measure platform performance and efficiency

  • Analyze platform usage data to identify areas for improvement

  • Lead initiatives to optimize costs and resource utilization

  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices within the team and organization

Education and Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience, including software development

  • 8+ years of professional information technology experience

  • Ability to demonstrate a mindset of data technology architecture and innovation

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a culturally diverse global company

  • Conversational French would be advantageous
