Job Summary

Job Title: Mine Planner

Location: Sandersville, GA

Job Summary:

To prepare mine plans and related reports and assist in the Lands and Mines annual budget process.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop logical mine plans and pit designs (short and medium range) for optimum use of mine reserves using reserve information and business forecasts and interaction with the Mining and Mineral Research groups.

  • Manage drill hole data utilizing SQL database.

  • Prepare, report, and communicate monthly crude materials requirement planning and monthly clay-in-ground volumes.

  • Assist in CER justification by developing alternative multi-year plans indicating cost savings resulting for implementation of new process equipment.

  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget.

  • Participate in business improvement team projects.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

  • Skills and Attributes Requirements

  • Demonstrated high proficiency of computer systems/software including MS Access and Excel (database); Arc GIS and Survey software; and mine planning software (surpac).

  • Knowledge of geologic terminology and sedimentary processes. 

  • Knowledge of kaolin mining, processing, or quality assurance is beneficial.

  • Problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to communicate to all levels of the organization (verbal and written)

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in geology, engineering, or other related field.

  • Two (2) years work experience in mining or related area.

Required Activities

  • Work is performed in an office environment with occasional exposure to mine environment exposed to seasonal climate conditions, heavy equipment operations, and industry hazards.  

  • Typical work hours are Monday – Friday, 40 hr/week with occasional increase in hours to complete major projects.

  • Position requires 75% sitting; 10% standing; and 15% walking.  Operate office equipment including computer system; using telephone and other communication systems – Frequently. 

  • Use near vision to view computer monitor for extended periods of time; use other computer equipment (mouse,  keyboard, printer)-Constantly. 

  • Operate company vehicle; navigate uneven surfaces-Occasionally.

  • Personal protective equipment required includes steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, and hard hat.
