The Position

Plant Maintenance & Project Manager

Job Summary

Primary purpose :  

Ensure cost effective maintenance of safe working equipment to meet production requirements.

• Manage all maintenance activities on site in order to obtain the required equipment availability and production rates to meet customer requirements.
• Develop and implement cost effective procedures to ensure the required plant reliability is achieved.
• Ensure maintenance complies with our ISO systems.
• Supervise & lead the activities of
  • the maintenance technicians.
  • the contractors working on maintenance items.
• Setup a preventive maintenance system to avoid breakdowns on critical equipment.
• Ensure projects are implemented within the required time frame & budget.
• Work in close cooperation with the Production and Quality Manager in order to ensure that maintenance activities and projects are in line with process engineering requirements

Accountabilities   

- Maintenance :

• Manage the supervision & coaching of all maintenance technicians & contractors on site to carry out activities in a safe and environmentally compliant way.
• Manage maintenance technicians & contractors to maintain the equipment to meet production requirements.
• Manage storage of and access to spare parts, to ensure break-down of equipment does not impact the supply to our customers.
• Provide forecasts of maintenance costs so that these can be reviewed against budget
• Participate in initiatives to improve the operational performance at the Gent facility.
• Imerys Talc Belgium Management Team, active participation in management of the operation in Gent.
• Ensure the availability of Maintenance Technicians and suitable contractors to achieve the required level of production reliability to meet customer orders.

- Projects :

• Ensure contractors & equipment on site comply with the QHSE requirements, including CE marking.
• Prepare and submit capital expenditures requests (CER).
• Implement projects on time and within budget compliant with CER submission.

- Reporting :

• Ensure adequate reports are available/provided for all relevant activities on site.
• Provision of monthly reports for maintenance related activities on site.
• Provision of KOI’s in order to fulfil the requirements of the regular (mainly monthly) reporting
• Provision of regular updates to the local and corporate management team (management meetings, Business Reviews, etc.)

Problem solving  

• Engineered solutions in a cost effective way, to lower the risks for personnel on site, as and when risks are identified.
• Predictive & preventive maintenance to facilitate acceptable plant availability.
• Root cause analysis of break-downs and implementation of practical solutions.
• Cost effective solutions to enable maintenance within total budgeted costs.
• Application of best practice from other Imerys Sites to improve reliability and or reduce maintenance costs.
• Resolve operational requirements with cost effective solutions fully meeting all QHSE requirements. This will include considering existing and new solutions for technical problems.

• Visitors and External suppliers of equipment & services.
• External legal bodies (e.g. fire plans, construction permits,...)

The role requires the plant to be available for production in order to meet our customer expectations.

• Detailed knowledge of QHSE requirements for maintenance technicians & contractors on site
• Detailed knowledge of maintenance procedures to be followed on site
• The role has a significant financial impact, it requires the plant to be available to supply customers with agreed orders.

 Technical competencies & skills  

• Fluent in English (E)
• Good level of Dutch (HD)
• Good level of French (B)
• Strong communication & management skills, both written & face to face (HD)
• Detailed understanding of equipment and utilities on site (E)
• Technical competence (E)
• Financial understanding of maintenance costs (E)
• Good level of IT knowledge (E)

Essential (E)- Highly Desirable (HD) - Beneficial(B)

Education & Qualifications
Bachelor degree in an engineering discipline.

Relevant experience  

• 3 to 7 years relevant professional experience in an industrial environment.
• In continuous improvement experience.
• In supervision of personnel, employees and contractors
