Job Summary: Perform various roles on an as-needed basis. Positions covered include Bulk Loader, Paper Bag Sacker, Mill Operator, Bulk Bagger, Car Cleaner, Front End Loader, Loader/Shredder Operator, Forklift Operator, and Quality Technician.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform all duties of above named positions as needed (see duties below). Perform other duties as assigned.
Skill/knowledge Requirement:
Communication skills. Coordination and multitasking skills. Writing, reading, and math skills. Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task. Must be able to safely and efficiently operate a front-end loader, slicer, forklift, bagger, and trackmobile to include identifying proper and improper operation and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of production process and computerized milling controls. Safety protocols for operating milling system. Routine equipment maintenance.
Required Activities: Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and balance while lifting and/or holding 50 lbs. For example: shovel clay, balance on railcars, lift railcar lids, and tighten/ release hand breaks on the railcars. Must be able to carry and lift up to 100 pounds. Frequent standing and walking required. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Incumbent must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime.
Education/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
1-3 years manufacturing experience.
Front End Loader experience preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities of Master Utility
Position Title: Bulk Loader
Complete pre-shift safety inspection sheet and railcar inspection sheet Maintain a clean working environment by removing clay from train tracks and work area. Verify railcar numbers to ensure accuracy based on written or verbal instructions from the mill operator. Observe position of railcars passing loading spouts and swing spouts into the correct positions at the appropriate times. Monitor product movement to and from silos, coordinating activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow. Communicate operating data such as product and quantity pumped to mill operator for recording. Check conditions and weights of railcars to ensure cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures Operate dump truck to transport clay from silo to crude clay shed as needed to lower the moisture content of crude clay. Pull samples from railcars and deliver to lab as needed to ensure product quality.
Position Title: Mill Operator
Perform all pre-shift and workplace examination prior to operation. Study blueprint, layout, and other specifications to determine crude clay needs, sequence of operations, and dimensions. Move controls to set specifications and start machine. Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls as needed or when automatic programming is faulty/ machines malfunction Perform in-process product testing to ensure quality according to set specifications. Record test results on quality report submitted to lab. Observe machine operation and use quality tests (with emphasis on moisture & grind) to make adjustments to controls/ crude mix to ensure conformance within specification tolerances and efficient machine operation. Run quality tests when quality tech is topping off cars
Position Title: Bulk Bagger
Complete pre-shift safety inspection sheet. Complete work- area inspection sheet. Cleans and maintains machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions. Fill Bulk Bags: Place pallet on conveyer with forklift. Hang empty bulk bags on bagger. Fill bags and ensure proper weight by utilizing shaker after 500 lbs is reached. After bag is full release the air pressure with the stop button & unhook bag. Tie top of bag closed. Make adjustments to meet customer requirements. Write identifier markings on bags according to customer specifications and ensure that all warning and product labels are on the bags. Take samples of product for QC Lab. Document product info on sample bag; catch sample from top of bag. Sample from 22 bags make 1 composite sample for QC lab. Place composite sample in bucket for lab pickup. Move Bulk Bags to Warehouse or truck: Make sure guard rails are in place, push conveyor belt button to roll bag away. Forklift removes bag from conveyor, using all 4 straps & round forks only. Forklift operator can store bags or load bags in truck. Complete bulk bagger report daily. Shovels or scoop spilled materials into containers.
Position Title: Front End Loader
Complete pre-shift safety inspection sheet Maintain a clean working environment by removing clay with the front-end loader and/or shovel. Operate front-end loader to transport and blend clay from various stockpiles to three different mills as identified by mill operator according to product specification. Set elevator chute flap for Rotary dryer feed bin or Cage Mill feed bin. Periodically check feed bins to prevent running out of clay. Lubricate loader as needed. Monitor tonnage when blowing kaolin into silos. Identify and troubleshoot front-end loader malfunction.
Position Title: Loader / Shredder Operator
Do daily pre-shift Mobile & Work area inspections Check bins to see which ones are ready for filling. Run clay into slicer and bin according to supervisor instruction. Find out what clay will be hauled & where it is to be dumped. Line up shuttle belt to the desired bin & energize belts starting with the belt feeding the bin & working back to the slicer: Energize slicer with control buttons on electric panel behind slicer. Adjust the speed according to moisture & lump size of clay. Sample clay by pulling a handful of clay off the slicer belt where it exits the slicer. Grab a sample from every fourth bucket fed into the slicer. If a blend of more than one row of clay is being fed, catch a sample that will reflect this blend ratio. Place a tag in the sample that identifies the row it is fed from, the bin it’s being fed into. Check belts & bins every half hour to be sure clay is going where you want it to. Keep small loader operator informed of what you’re doing so that he can help you watch for trouble with the conveying system To shut down the system, reverse the start up procedure. Be sure Loader is full of fuel, water & oil for the next shift. Wash the Loader.
Position Title: Quality Technician
Check grind sheets of both mill systems to see what products are to be run. Get sample checks from the mills within the first 10 to 15 minutes of start-up Make sure automatic samplers are working properly Run test according to customer’s specifications & put data on grind sheet Make out composite sample bags for each order using automatic sample & for top off samples Notify mill operator immediately when any product is out of specification. Test samples from mills every hour – if running to silos – every 30 minutes Bulk load from # 4 silo as needed while utilizing all required Personal Protective Equipment Run MBI on KT Cast and Opticast 6 tile Do SPC charts on products as they are run Provide mill operator with any assistance needed to perform the job safely & efficiently. Clean assigned areas during shift Safely operate Trackmobile to move rail cars while following Rail Car moving policy
Position Title: Forklift Operator
Get grind sheet for the orders to be ran for the day from the lab. Complete work area & mobile equipment pre-shift inspections Keep pallets supplied to palletizer operator Watch packers and placers. Stretch wrap pallets of product Greet truck drivers. Have driver complete necessary paperwork ( signing in, identifying MSS number, signing bill-of-lading, signing master shipping sheet). Ensure truck is suitable for loading by checking for extruding nails, water leaks, foreign objects, and floor integrity for forklift. Load pallets of product into trucks with forklift. Manually position bags when necessary. Transfer pallets from packaging area to warehouse with forklift Complete daily paperwork: shift reports, Dp & Opacity, Pre-shift, Bill of Lading with weight reports attached, and daily reject bag report. Maintain a clean working environment by removing clay and trash from work area; to include moving pallets and garbage to dumpsters.
