The Position

Lab Technician

Job Summary

ROLE:

The QA Lab Technician is part of the Quality Team and supports the plant production process by providing technical analysis of ore, in-process products, and finished products processed through the plant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Laboratory Technician sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments to determine a variety of information. Information must be communicated to the plant operators and management in an effective and timely manner to maintain ensuring production efficiency and ore quality. 

  • Assists in quality-related projects and maintains the document control aspect of ISO 9001:2015 system across the site.

  • Performs and maintains records of all the monthly calibrations of laboratory equipment, taking proper steps when equipment is out of calibration or performing poorly. This includes notifying the Lab Supervisor  to schedule annual calibrations performed by contractors. 

  • Reconciles plant production reports with lab production reports and records all relevant data into the plant production and lab databases. 

  • Participate in Serious Seven, Take Five, I-Cube, and all other Imerys Systems as required.

COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School or GED equivalent

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • 2+ years related experience in mining or analytical laboratory operations.

  •  Must be able to perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner and adhere to all company and federal safety regulations.

  •  Knowledge of laboratory practices, plant processes, and ISO 9001:2015 document control requirements.

  • Ability to interpret laboratory test results and notify supervisor of any unusual results

  • Ability to simultaneously run multiple laboratory testing machines in an efficient and effective manner.

  •  Ability to learn and effectively operate multiple laboratory testing software packages and Microsoft Office Products including: Google, Excel, Word, Access, and SharePoint.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  •   Must possess effective organization, record keeping skills, and be detail oriented.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; able to spend a majority of an 8-hour shift standing/walking around all plant areas.
