The Position

EHS Manager

Job Summary

Primary purpose   

  • Co-ordinate the Environmental, Health & Safety activities in the plant, in order to obtain healthy and safe working conditions and environment-friendly production; complying with all applicable legal and company requirements.
  • Develop & implement procedures to reduce the risk for personnel impacted by the Imerys Talc Business.
  • Support and lead projects to develop the operation.
  • Support the ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 standard.

Accountabilities    

  • Support the supervision & coaching of all personnel on site (including contractors & visitors) to carry out activities in a safe way. Develop written procedures to cover high risk activities performed at the site.
  • Carry out occupational exposure assessment to measure dust exposure levels,  chemical exposure levels, noise and vibration exposure levels at the workplace.
  • Supervise & coach all personnel on site to carry out activities in an environmentally compliant way. Target continuous improvement of environmental performance.
  • Management & leadership of Safety on the site.
  • Update documents and structure all the procedures related to safety for the site. This also includes Risk Assessments, Safety Protocols, CE marking and risks identified by internal and external audits.
  • Manage and participate in projects to improve safety and performance on site.
  • Legal internal prevention advisor complying to Belgian legislation (max 25%).
  • Imerys Talc Belgium Management Team, active participation in ongoing business development. Leadership for all EHS initiatives.

Problem solving   

  • Legal compliance in a cost effective way.
  • Root cause analysis of safety, environmental and operational incidents. Implementation of cost effective solutions.

Key relationships   

  • All personnel on site.
  • Imerys contacts including senior management, technical staff and Imerys Safety officers.
  • External contacts including contractors, legal bodies, suppliers (equipment service, chemicals), local industries to establish best practices, etc.

Internal / external impacts   

  • Detailed knowledge of safety procedures to be followed on-site.
  • Detailed knowledge of environmental requirements.
  • The role has a financial impact as solving issues in a practical way is a key part of the role.

 Technical competencies & skills   

  • Fluent in Dutch & English (E)
  • Good level of French (HD)
  • Strong communication & management skills, both written & face to face (E)
  • Technical competence (E)
  • Prevention advisor (HD)
  • Environmental advisor (B)
  • Auditing skills Imerys Activities (HD)
  • Understand the requirements to support ISO systems (ISO 9001 �� 14001) (B)
  • Good level of IT knowledge (B)

Essential (E)- Highly Desirable (HD) - Beneficial(B)

Education & qualifications   

  • Technical qualification is required
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or Science is very beneficial

Relevant experience   

  • At least 2 years relevant professional experience, working with EHS in an industrial environment.
