JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS
To supervise and report the setup/upgrading/day-to-day operation of a coating lab facility that serves the Apac region
To provide industrial coatings formulation expertise and reformulation advice and leadership for Imerys PM Apac region’s coatings related projects/ products/ customers
The position is laboratory based, but with requirement of regular travel to customers and conferences and seminars.
To recommend and coordinate CAPEX equipment selection and purchasing
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide hands-on technical expertise/solutions for all projects relating to industrial coatings as part of the Science and Technology (S&T) groups based at Imerys Technology Center (ITC) Tianjin
Train and supervise the work carried out by technicians/trainees working in the laboratory.
Work with the PM APAC marketing and commercial teams to identify NPD opportunities and support growth of all mineral sales.
Provide coatings reformulation expertise on customer reformulation and internal projects
Bring new ideas and help implement new products and new uses of mineral solutions for industrial coatings projects.
Responsibility for the timely execution of agreed work plans, summarising the current status of the relevant projects on a monthly basis.
Write clear, concise and accurate reports of the work, giving comments on results and drawing conclusions.
Interface with customers and raw material suppliers to keep up to date with coatings industry developments.
Keep up to date with developments in paint technology and competitive landscape through internally received publications and attending conferences and seminars as necessary.
Work within the Imerys Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
Other Important Functions
Provide training on functionality of all mineral extenders in coatings systems including industrial and powder coatings.
Work with other S&T groups within Imerys to coordinate shared projects.
Ability to work flexible hours when required.
Ability to travel as and when required Assure level of competence by identifying any suitable professional training requirements.
The ability to cover applications outside the industrial coatings sphere as needed eg. Specialities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in chemistry, polymer science or related subject.
Preferably 3-5 years minimum R&D/technical job experience or broad industrial experience in research and manufacturing practices specific to the coatings industry.
Supervisory experience preferred Fluent in English
