The Position

Purchasing Manager

Job Summary

JOB  SUMMARY:

Plan and execute purchasing and procurement strategies.  Work closely with all levels of management to determine needs, develop strategies, and provide procurement sources in support of those needs.  Optimize the supplier base into a select group of proven high-quality strategic suppliers that meet or exceed expectations of the end-user. 

LOCATION:  Middle Georgia

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop procurement strategy for major spends including:  commodity and category - Energy/raw materials, MRO (maintenance, repair, operations) supplies, contract/general labor – production, mechanical/electrical maintenance, and support purchasing of other supplies as requested.
    • Monitor and analyze trends in spending and inventory control in order to make recommendations for the future and to identify areas of possible savings
    • Identify savings targets, develop plans, utilize staff to achieve goals and measure the results towards budget.
    • Select suppliers, assesses vendor capabilities, develops alternate sources, and evaluates vendor performance in order to secure cost-effective sources for products and services.
    • Negotiate purchase price, terms, delivery methods (prepaid vs. collect), and warranties for products and services for all key suppliers and/or contractors.
    • Effectively develop and manage personnel and communicate procurement strategies to team members in a timely and clear fashion.
    • Assures department records are maintained and purchases are followed up or expedited when required. Department records include price histories to provide information on price variances.
    • Participate in global supply chain initiatives.

  EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Related Field
  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing/procurement with progressive responsibilities (commodity/category)
  • Strong Computer skills: MS Office suite & ERP
