The Position

Plant Purchasing Manager - West Thurrock

Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Plant Purchasing Manager will ensure the operational continuity of his/her perimeter. The incumbent must be based in West Thurrock, UK site. He/she will report directly to the North Europe Purchasing Manager.

Playing an active role in continuous improvement of processes and strategy.

  • Be the single point of contact to the plant managers of the designated sites.
  • Gathering the local purchasing requirements: anticipate, collect and optimize the sites requirements in terms of quantity and specifications.
  • Ensure internal customer satisfaction with the performance of the purchasing team
  • Entry point for all purchase requests.
  • Supplier quality management.
  • Close collaboration with supply chain / procurement.

JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS

  • Direct Spend +/- £20 million
  • Indirect Spend through work collaboration with the regional category managers -  (indirect, transport, energy, chemicals, packaging, raw materials, mining, capex…) : +/- £20 million

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the deployment of global / regional category management policy

  • Work closely with regional category managers (indirect, transport, energy, chemicals, packaging, raw materials, mining, capex…)
  • Ensure compliances with purchasing strategy and policy at site level
  • Organize and coordinate local trials with the suppliers selected by the categories managers
  • Lead new purchasing initiatives at cross-clusters or at country level, on a case by case basis

Responsible of local purchase

  • Responsible of the purchase contracts for local purchase opex / capex
  • Support deployment of larger Capex on his/her sites
  • Frequent local presence in the different sites of his perimeter
  • Sourcing new suppliers and negotiating contracts
  • Propose and manage local purchase synergies
  • Monitoring suppliers ‘performance, KPI’s
  • Reporting and analysis, collect and report the sites financial performance including tracking of target savings

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements

Proven experience in a similar role

Relevant degree, preferably Masters level (Bachelor degree will be considered for the right applicant) or equivalent

Level 6 CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) qualification or working towards or equivalent

Knowledge, skills, abilities and other

  • Highly motivated and proactive driver of change
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills – both internally and externally
  • Ability to have a global view and link business need to purchasing strategy
  • Confident decision maker.
  • Proficient in MS Office software, Google suite, experience in bespoke Imerys systems (e.g. IFS, 7 Steps) an advantage
  • Ability to quickly understand high level technical elements of the category being handled Understanding and actively promote the procurement cycle
  • Have the ability to support and champion the development and introduction of effective purchasing methods and tools
  • Full driving licence and use of own vehicle
