The Position

BI Data Lake Expert

Job Summary


Early 2018, Imerys has launched an ambitious internal transformation program to foster efficiency within the group: MAKE IT #1. MAKE IT#1 Group wide digital transformation is reshaping Imerys Digital landscape, encompassing 5 pillars: a set of common language and processes, a global ERP Core Model S4/Hana based, a common collaboration platform (GNOC, GSOC, unified WAN) and a common unified IT organization. MAKE IT #1 aims at implementing common IT Tools for our business units / divisions. In order to enable seamless development and roll out of these new tools, Imerys IT is also evolving from IT division centric organization to a more integrated IT with strong regional IT platform.

EMEA IT RCC (Regional Competency Center) implements and enforces standards and policies as defined by the Group. EMEA IT RCC designs, deploys and supports regional and division specific solutions and applications.

This position is part of EMEA IT RCC organization in BI team.

The BI Data Lake Expert covers any topics related to Data Lake (projects and existing applications) : orchestrate the Big data platform and build the assets of the Data Lake in interfacing with the various business of the branches and the technical teams of the group.


  • User number: 5 600 IT users on 150 sites across EMEA
  • Server number: 800 owned
  • Data Centers : 4 Regional, 8 BU shared, 50 Computer rooms
  • Applicative map: 20 central applications, 50 local applications
  • Project number (functional / technical): 50 projects per year, including 5 major
  • BI team members 12 ( 6 in Paris and 6 in Par Moor UK)


  • Design and build Data Lake applications. Identify and propose improvements (data scope in the data platform, data feeds simplification, Data Platform enrichment) from an end-user perspective
  • Formalize, assess and optimize , with business representatives from the Business Area, the system solutions to support processes. Advise, support business, and instruct requests for changes around the data lake platform
  • Maintain existing data lake applications
  • Ensures compliance with best practices and the validity of the architecture of our information systems. Ensures the governance of its subjects and monitors the performance of the change management systems and actions.
  • Interact with Infrastructure teams to ensure the performance of the application portfolio
  • Work closely with the BRM’s to organize, follow up and contribute to appraise business demands, propose solutions and engage with Group / Regional IT teams for implementation
  • Coordinate with Group and the BI teams all necessary actions to simplify, automate and make more sustainable (replacing non secure tools for exemple) the perimeter
  • Promote the Data Platform of the group
  • Assist project managers in their projects if needed.
  • Ensure a technology watch on his domain


Inside the company

  • Hierarchically attached to the EMEA BI Manager
  • Regular interactions with other IT Departments
  • Business users when necessary (projects, support tickets, business requirements detailing)
  • Address Business Area’s BRMs and interact with BRM Coordinator as needed

Outside the company

  • Project subcontractors (topics related to projects)
  • Applicative solution suppliers



  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering
  • 5 years of practical experience in projects with Data Lake Platform
  • Extensive experience implementing, migrating, managing Data lake applications
  • Fluent or native English speaker


  • Knowledge and experience with AWS Applications
  • Knowledge of Imerys internal organization
  • Experience of working within a culturally diverse global company
  • Conversant in French or another European language would be advantageous
