The Position

Maintenance/Operator

Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:  
The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives. 
This role reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for maintenance activities at the Birmingham, AL operation. Experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance in an industrial environment, with an emphasis on electrical is required.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment. 
Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service. 
Skills including, but not limited to electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines. 
Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. 
Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments. 
Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities. 
Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions. 
Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties. 
Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision. 
Support of any process improvement project work  
Generate/complete maintenance work orders  
Understand production processes to identify and correct any inefficiency 
Work as the technical expert for all production related equipment  
Support production activities to reduce downtime and increase efficiency  
Report as needed to support maintenance needs across all shifts (call in)  
Offer suggestions for continuous process improvements
Good mechanical aptitude
Strong understanding of electric wiring and repairs
Knowledge of 24,120 and 480 volt work
Understanding of PLC's, instrumentation and programming a plus

OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS

Strictly adhere to all company policies and procedures
Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to troubleshoot system performance related issues to solve basic problems and find a safe, effective solution
Strong troubleshooting skills required; understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, Preventive Maintenance theories
Must be capable of reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, blueprints, schematics, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals  
Ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively on work orders and safety improvement recommendations
Perform production tasks such as operation of equipment as needed
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
2 to 5 years of maintenance experience
Physical ability to safely operator motorized vehicles (tow motor, forklift. railcar mover)  

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Regularly works in a manufacturing and warehouse environment, and often works near moving mechanical parts, motorized equipment and vehicles (tow motors)  
Often it is required to work on outside areas, exposed the weather elements like extreme heat or cold depending on the season
Routinely exposed to airborne particulates, dust and caustic chemicals/raw materials
