I-Cube/Health and Safety Officer

There is a vacancy for a I-Cube/Health and Safety Officer based at Heathfield, reporting to the Senior Manager of Operational Excellence. The successful candidate will work with and implement best practices as well as lean methodologies across operations in the UK, namely Ball Clays at Heathfield in Devon, Furzebrook in Dorset and Lee Moor Herreschoff in Devon.

The purpose of the role will be:

  • To work with plant management teams to determine key priorities and design and implement action plans to improve facility health and safety performance in alignment with established standards.

  • To manage Operational Excellence (OpEx) performance reporting and review key site business KPI’s.

  • To teach, train and coach -

  • Track, analyse and suggest improvements for productivity data at plants.

  • Lead workshops using lean methodologies.

  • Give training and coaching to various levels of the organisation about health and safety and methodologies and tools of Operational Excellence.

  • Increase financial awareness of plant teams in order to focus the operational excellence on the key loss-reduction activities in financial terms.

  • To identify good practices at the plant level and share and promote these practices within the Operations community via webinars, intranet, seminars, etc.

  • Generally contribute to the improvement and effectiveness of -

  • Audits and assessments

  • Accident/incident investigations including root cause analysis

  • Performance reporting

  • Document control & management

  • EHS meeting structures

  • Support other UK Industrial Hub initiatives that from time to time, will be required for  business performance improvement

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Line Management - Provide Operational Excellence and health and safety support and guidance as required.

  • Accidents and Incidents - Ensure all are investigated thoroughly in a timely manner and that identified remedial actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence. 

  • Enablon - Develop knowledge to effectively use and manage Enablon the EHS database.

  • Health & Safety Document - Review and update documentation to enable compliance with relevant legislation, Imerys Group and local policies, identifying where improvements can be made to realise operational and business excellence. 

  • Auditing & Monitoring of Performance - Provide support for operations ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation and I-Cube initiatives by carrying out audits / inspections.

  • Provide performance information to benchmark activities against other functions / activities, entities, operators / sectors and identify areas for improvement.

  • Emergency Procedures & Response - Emergency response as necessary to site Environmental incidents, providing technical support and advice, evaluation and emergency liaison with Regulatory authorities.

  • Training - Assist in the development of and where required deliver training strategies and activities.

  • Meetings - Attend as necessary, OPEX, Business / Production / EHS Team etc.

The salary for this role will be between £30,000 to £32,000 p.a.
