The Position

Project Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for all aspects of project initiation, preparation, and execution related to modification and improvement of existing plants as well as construction of new processing plants, their successful completion of projects in full, while upholding Imerys safety standard and within the given budget and timeline. 

He/ she will lead/ support various process studies, including new processing conception, plant optimization, process debottlenecking and benchmarking. 

Key skills required would be methodical project management, processing & engineering design, and strong communication competency. Production or processing experience is essential and mining/minerals industry experience is preferred.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provides project leadership and engineering guidance to “make things happen” according to Imerys protocols. 

  • Uphold Imerys EHS standards in all phases of work.

  • Steer the different steps of conception and realization of industrial projects while collaborating with the Process and Operation team. 

  • Coordinate the engineering work and interface with external engineering companies for large scale projects.

  • Manage the tendering documents and RFQs in cooperation with the Purchasing team and internal process experts.

  • Review and validate design drawings for construction, such as civil & structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and automation.

  • Drive continuous improvements, support process optimization and benchmarking exercises. 


Project Management:

  • Develop project scope and objective, involving all relevant stakeholders to ensure technical feasibility. Including interfacing with internal and external engineering groups/ vendors/ subject experts/ governmental agencies.

  • Provide budget estimates, validate project costing. Assist in developing project business plan. 

  • Responsible for project planning, develop execution strategy, manage and mitigate project risks.

  • Ensure efficient project controls tools (cost, schedule, risk, quality) are in place. 

  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documents, schedules, and action plans. 

  • Update project status to Management on a regular basis. Facilitate decisions. 

  • Accountable for project execution. Oversee site work, and involved in commissioning. 

  • Ensure the timely achievement of all governmental approvals and permits as needed. 

  • Project closure in full scope and handover to Operation. 



  • Conception of new processing ideas. Coordinate trials in lab, pilot/ industrial scale, to define processing routes to be implemented.  

  • Support plant optimization. Establish process benchmarking, mass balance and energy balance. 

  • Review and validate equipment specifications fit-for-use.


Education and Experience requirements:

  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. 

  • Proficiency in a second language commonly used in South East Asia would have an advantage, especially Bahasa.

  • Degree in Engineering, preferably major in Chemical / Processing/ Industrial.

  • Extensive Project management experience is required. PMP certification would have an advantage.

  • 8 - 12 years of experience involving/ managing industrial projects. Regional exposure or Owner experience would be appreciated.

  • Production or processing experience is essential. Mining/ minerals industry experience is preferred.

  • Factory design and construction experience

  • Familiar with project management tools and project financial/ cost tracking tools.

  • Strong EHS leadership. 

  • Mobility to travel.
