The Position

Drill Core Analyst

Job Summary

  • Perform work tasks safely and in compliance with federal guidelines and Imerys’ protocols, support MSHA requirements, Safe Start, Take 5, Serious 7 and other initiatives as implemented. 

  • Calibrate, operate and, where applicable, perform routine maintenance on laboratory testing and measuring equipment. 

  • Monitor the volume of incoming drill core, plan and implement a work schedule to complete testing within the defined timeline.

  • Visually grade/class drill core, log drill hole information, divide strata, prepare samples and perform the initial evaluation testing. 

  • Group core strata for market specific testing and composite for further testing.

  • Compile and record test data for evaluation and review.

  • Group/classify core strata by mining grade. 

  • Prepare report and summary of the drill data, including potential market uses.

  • Participate in quality program objectives.

  • Participate in the resolution of quality issues.

  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Perform work duties independently.

  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task.

  • Possess the ability to read, understand and follow testing procedures.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the operation of laboratory equipment and instruments.

  • Demonstrate good math skills.

  • Demonstrate verbal communication and listening comprehension.

  • Competency in technical databases; charting, spreadsheets, documents and technical SOPs. 

  • Ability to evaluate and interpret data, analyze and prepare reports.

  • Ability to work effectively as a team player.

  • Possess good problem solving skills.

  • High school or equivalent level required.

  • Lab and/or analytical instrument testing experience recommended.

  • Bachelor Degree with a chemistry emphasis preferred.

Occasional visits to the mines or crude clay storage areas and milling systems. Climb stairs/steps multiple times per day. A significant amount of the work is conducted in a building that is ambient temperature, that is, without heating or cooling. Must be able to stand, walk or sit for an extended time period and lift and carry +/-50 lb.
