Innovating for the decarbonization of the construction industry
Our scientists are reimagining construction materials to meet the dual challenges of climate change and urban growth. Our approach focuses on decarbonization, resource efficiency, and revalorizing by-products, developing sustainable alternatives to Portland cement, advanced insulation materials, and secondary cementitious products that improve both performance and environmental impact.
Beyond developing new materials, we are implementing strategies that repurpose byproducts and optimize waste management. By extending the lifecycle of building materials, we enable the industry to reduce its carbon footprint and align with global environmental objectives.
Key innovations in low-carbon concrete and specialty binders
Some key innovations and initiatives include:
- LEAP® - A range of calcium aluminate specialty binders to boost strength and promote decarbonization in cement and concrete.
- Argical® M-1000 - A low-emission metakaolin hydraulic binder designed to replace up to 70% clinker in concrete. Argical M-1000 is a Pioneer product.
- Mineral foams based on geopolymer and aluminate technology for fire-resistant insulation applications.
- Sewper Liner® a Pioneer-rated calcium-aluminate solution designed to coat newly-built wastewater infrastructure for optimum protection against severe biogenic corrosion.
- ShrinkSan® - A Pioneer-rated range of re-usable kiln furniture to replace single-use firing plates in sanitaryware production.
- A range of minerals for lightweight large-slab tiles for building facades, and silicates for the decarbonization of glass and ceramics.
These solutions show how innovative material design and targeted refinements can drive a significant impact for both industry and society.
