Celite® diatomite for filtration
Practical, efficient and economical diatomite filtration media
What is Celite?
Celite is a natural mineral derived from fossilized diatoms, these tiny aquatic organisms with a unique, porous honeycomb-like structure. The distinctive properties of Celite make it suitable for a wide range of applications. With its high surface area and outstanding absorption qualities, Celite is recognized for delivering superior performance.
Celite filter aids provide practical and economical solutions to the most common challenges associated with clarifying liquids. In filtration, particles are separated from a fluid by passing the fluid through a permeable material. When removing suspended solids from liquids, ideally, the liquid passes through and the solids remain, building a permeable cake on the screen. With large, incompressible particles, this ideal can be approached. In practice, however, finer particles often pass through, leaving only larger solids on the screen. With the screen blocked, the flow of liquid slows and the solids stick to the screen, making it very difficult to clean. Celite addresses these filtration challenges through an innovative process that maximizes efficiency.
The two-step filter aid solution
Filtration using Celite diatomite is a two-step operation. First, a thin protective layer of filter aid, called pre-coat, is built up on the filter septum by recirculating a filter aid slurry. After pre-coating, small amounts of filter aid, called body feed, are regularly added to the liquid to be filtered. As filtering progresses, the filter aid, mixed with the suspended solids from the unfiltered liquid, is deposited on the precoat. A new filtering surface is continuously formed; the minute filter aid particles provide countless microscopic channels that entrap suspended impurities, yet allow clear liquid to pass through without clogging.
The most effective filter aid
Celite’s filter aids have four characteristics that make them especially efficient and economical.
- First, the individual particles are rigid, intricately shaped and porous.
- Second, they form a highly permeable, stable, incompressible filter cake.
- Third, they remove fine solids at optimal rates of flow.
- And fourth, they are chemically inert and essentially insoluble in the liquid being filtered.
Moreover, Celite filter aids are versatile enough to filter different impurities due to the wide range of permeabilities available. Unlike other filtration technologies, systems using DE filter aids can handle input variability by adjusting dosage or grades without having to shut down production or change equipment.
Key benefits of Celite diatomaceous earth for filtration
Celite's porous structure allows it to filter out impurities effectively while maintaining optimal flow rates. This ensures that your processes run smoothly without compromising quality.
Our diatomaceous earth (DE) is meticulously processed, offering an unparalleled level of purity essential for food and beverage safety.
Celite removes impurities and particulates, resulting in products that retain their quality and clarity across beverage, food and industrial applications. This clarity is crucial for consumer satisfaction and product integrity.
Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is characterized by its high porosity, featuring tiny pores that effectively trap suspended solids from liquids. This property results in significantly cleaner liquids with reduced contaminant levels, thereby optimizing filtration performance.
The Celite product range offers producers flexibility to quickly adapt to changes in solids or process by adjusting permeability. By utilizing Celite Diatomaceous Earth, industries can achieve superior filtration results, ensuring the highest standards of product quality and safety.
