Job Summary

Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor (Lompoc Plants)

Join our team as the Laboratory Supervisor overseeing the quality control operations for our four plants in Lompoc. In this crucial role, you'll ensure the highest standards of product quality from raw materials to final packaging, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and optimize laboratory workflows, ensuring timely completion of tests and procedures while maintaining strict compliance with regulations and safety protocols.

  • Lead a team of talented union laboratory technicians, providing training, mentorship, and performance feedback to foster their professional growth.

  • Implement robust quality control measures, including regular audits, proficiency testing, and addressing any discrepancies to uphold the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and cost control by introducing new technologies, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Oversee inventory management, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies to ensure accurate and reliable test results.

  • Collect and analyze quality data, track plant metrics (daily production, non-conforming products), and conduct specialized tests (baggie tests, color, JSFA, FCC, etc.) to drive productivity and waste reduction initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, supporting customer service by providing product samples, handling requests, and investigating customer complaints to implement corrective and preventative actions.

  • Manage and maintain laboratory information systems (LIMS) and ERP, ensuring accurate data entry, timely release of finished goods, and addressing any discrepancies.

  • Conduct and participate in audits, train QC personnel, and represent the laboratory in certification and customer audits.

  • Review and approve batch records for GMP products, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Manage timecards, schedules, and training requirements for laboratory personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 2+ years of recent experience in a laboratory setting.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in performing laboratory tests and procedures.

  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems, ERP, and other relevant software applications.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across the organization.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and implement quality control measures.

  • Organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong understanding of laboratory operations and workflow optimization.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Work Environment:

  • 75% Office Environment - some minor lifting, sitting, standing

  • 25% Plant Environment - walking, noise, dust

California Salary Range: $80,000 USD - $100,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
