The Position

Road Transportation Category Manager

Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Road Transport Category Manager applies a strategic approach to one of the major spend categories of the organization. Knowing and anticipating market dynamics for the category with a good understanding of the needs of the company will result in the most optimized delivered cost solution while keeping the right level of service (Safety, Environmental Impact, Quality, On-time deliveries).

JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS

Category: Bulk silo powder, bulk slurry silo tankers, liquid silo tankers and bulk tippers.

Scope: Europe (except France and Spain)

Road spend : 40 M€/year (500 lanes)

 

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be a leader in HSE (Health Safety & Environment) and ethical-sustainable supply chain.

  • Develop collaborative cross-functional relationships to meet internal business needs to assure availability at required quality & costs levels, e.g. drive efficiency improvements (Negotiation, Sourcing, Productivity).

  • Be proactive and work closely on new product or business development to anticipate purchasing requirements.

  • Responsible to identify, manage and control pipeline of strategic sourcing projects for the category including:

    • Preparation: Work with local teams to gather necessary data and requirements from the designated sites.

    • Sourcing: responsible to develop the right sourcing strategy and to execute the strategy (including running a sourcing process)

    • Negotiation: lead negotiation and develop contracts through collaboration with key stakeholders.

    • Contract Implementation: accountable for effective implementation of contract.

    • Contract management: informed about issues and disputes with suppliers, with responsibility to interfere if issue becomes critical or escalated.

 
  • Accountable and responsible for implementation of global or regional category strategy, program and specific policies.

  • Support implementation of purchasing tools, technology, and sourcing processes to improve results & increase efficiencies.

  • Monitor, analyze, and provide guidance for market impacts and trends.

  • Develop and provide adequate KPI’s (quantitative and qualitative) related to the category.

  • Play a Key Supplier Manager role for strategic suppliers.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor or Master degree in Purchasing Management preferable with a logistics background

 

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience with strategic sourcing.

Skills:

  • Team player,  flexible, with interpersonal communication skills.
  • Broad understanding of transportation markets in EMEA (global drivers, regional issues).
  • Very strong analytic and negotiation skills, process oriented.
  • Project management skills; experience in promoting, developing and executing projects, such as cost improvements or transformation projects.
  • Excellent level with Google Sheet or Microsoft Excel.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Fluent English Speaker.
  • Occasional travel may be required to meet the demands of the role.
