Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The GIS SPECIALIST will be responsible for supporting all departments (environment and permitting, geology, mining and infrastructures) within the EMILI PROJECT TEAM with regard to  geographical information systems and databases for the several sites in France that are part of EMILI PROJECT.

He/she will be requested to contribute to development of the GIS strategy for IMERYS globally.

Scope: Lithium Projects 

Travel: Based in Paris main office with travel to Allier as per need

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The GIS Specialist will provide support to the different departments within the project with the following tasks:

  • Create, use and share geographic system based databases, files and maps

  • Compile, validate, name, store and publish the geographical information transmitted by internal resources, engineering suppliers and public entities

  • Create and export maps containing this information in different layers such as : cadastral information, monitoring points, environmentally protected areas, existing infrastructures and to be constructed building and infrastructures, mining and quarries areas, etc.

  • Validate and update topographies, surveys and elevation models

  • Convert GIS files to CAD and CAD to SIG (including shapes, dwg, kmz, etc…)

  • Extract views from the GIS on request for permitting application, environmental studies, hazard studies, discussions with public infrastructure operators, administrations and local stakeholders.

The GIS Specialist will also participate and contribute to develop the implementation of a common GIS within IMERYS

The GIS Specialist will exhibit excellent safety standards in all areas of work through:

  • influencing others through example

  • visible safety leadership.

  • preparation and sharing of best practice guidelines with respect to GIS systems and processes.

  • creation of maps highlighting the relevant information, with adequate layouts

The GIS Specialist will participate in the deployment of  Imerys Industrial Improvement (I-Cube) in mines by:

  • assist in the preparation of action plans toward improving safety and operational efficiency.

  • staying abreast of state-of-the-art and emerging technologies in the domain of GIS in mining.

OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS

The GIS Specialist must be comfortable and competent in presenting technical subjects in the field of expertise to a wider audience, either through training courses, seminars or web-based platform/webinar.

Education and Experience requirements

Education

  • Geospatial/Mining/Geology Engineering degree with a GIS qualification with 1 years experience minimum (work-study accepted)

Experience

  • GIS and geospatial engineering is a requirement

  • Mining experience is an advantage.

  • Project management and/or implementation

  • Topography, land and aerial survey

Technical skills

  • Proficiency with ESRI GIS software or other GIS software (QGIS necessary, ARCGIS preferable, web-based GIS,)

  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD necessary)

  • Familiarity with geospatial or mining software such as Surpac and Leapfrog, would be an advantage

  • Strong computer skills (Databases, cloud, Google Suite).

Language & communication

  • English and French at professional level is a requirement.

  • Ability to communicate – to both technical and non-technical audiences across the full range of management levels, and with external engineering firms.

  • Able to quickly develop good working relationships with a culturally diverse range of people.
