The Position

QA/QC Lab Technician (Quality Control)

Job Summary

KEY RESULTS AREAS / PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Efficiency and accuracy of result generation.

  • Ensure working with equipment that is clean, calibrated and safe.

  • Ability to interface with appropriate personnel in the course of job duties.

  • Ability to follow testing protocols, including reporting of results.


DIMENSIONS / FACTS AND FIGURES:

Ability to work rotating shifts between QA and QC. This includes nights, weekends, and some holidays.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES:

  • Sets up and operates laboratory equipment and instrumentation according to written procedure.

  • Procures samples according to documented locations, sampling intervals and procedures.

  • Verifies material test results conform to internal specifications during testing procedures.

  • Reports non-conformities to Laboratory Supervisor or other designated persons.

  • Records test results within the recognized formats in a timely manner.

  • Cleans, maintains, troubleshoots and calibrates test equipment as necessary and when procedures mandate.

  • Follows all safety rules and regulations and attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.

  • Ensures that the laboratory is kept in an exemplary condition regarding cleanliness and organization.

  • Reports equipment failure/out of calibration immediately to Laboratory Supervisor or designated person.

  • Knowledgeable of all documented quality procedures related to position, as well as the company quality policy.

  • Writes test reports describing procedures used, as well as charting and/or graphing the results when necessary.

  • Handles, stores, and disposes of all materials in an environmentally safe manner.

  • Packages and ships samples according to specified procedures.

  • Perform tasks deemed reasonable by Laboratory Supervisor or designated persons.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • An Associate’s degree or Bachelor's in associated field preferred.

  • 0-2 years in a laboratory environment

  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, LIMS and other applicable applications.

  • Knowledge of X-Ray Fluorescence and X-Ray Diffraction preferred.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical periodicals, material or equipment instructions, data, and safety materials.  

  • Ability to write technical reports and procedures.  

  • Ability to effectively present information to, and respond to questions from groups of managers and other employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to pick, pinch, or otherwise work primarily with fingers to operate the keyboard for computer work.  This position requires the employee to frequently walk, bend, stoop and have the ability to lift and or move up to 50 pounds and mostly works in a plant, lab and office environment.  This position is exposed to cement and other dusty bi-products in a plant and laboratory work environment.  Based on the hazards of working in a plant/industrial environment, this position requires alertness, the ability to think rationally while working on multiple tasks.  This position needs the ability to express or exchange ideas, provide detailed spoken instructions by means of the spoken word to impact oral information to managers, suppliers, contractors, co-workers, direct report or the public.   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.  The employee is required to stand, walk, sit and climb or balance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
