The Position

Plant Purchasing Manager

Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: Plant Purchasing Manager

LOCATION:  Home-based, Southeast preferred + 15% travel

JOB  SUMMARY:

The Plant Purchasing Manager (PPM) will directly support a plant/mine site or  group of plants/mine sites within one of three sub-regions in North America, providing purchasing, sourcing and project management for major purchases (typically over $50K in value).

 

The Plant Purchasing Manager will partner closely with key functions including procurement (daily, tactical purchasing typically under $50K purchases), maintenance, operations, logistics, engineering, finance, safety, etc.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partners closely with plant procurement and operations to competitively source plant contractors and service providers

  • Works with each plant to identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership and increase plant efficiency using supplier capabilities

  • Executes bids, quotes and RFQ’s for competitive products and services

  • Places purchase orders for goods and services

  • Drives capex and major opex projects with project management practices, using specialized process tools – Capital Expense Request process

  • Provides advice, best-practice guidance and training to local procurement teams

  • Supports materials management process to meet production needs while also hitting inventory targets

  • Tracks and presents on KPIs and action plans to stakeholders

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Business or Engineering preferred plus 5 years related experience, or 10 years industrial purchasing experience without a degree

  • Technologically savvy 

  • MS Office Suite or Google suite

  • Project management training a plus

  • Experience working with ERP and other software-based processes, ideally SAP

  • Purchasing certification a plus

  • Experience in Capex purchasing in an industrial environment

  • Travel approximately 10%-15%
