The Position

South America Enviroment Manager

Job Summary

Company

On March 28, 2024, Imerys Group (www.imerys.com) published a press release announcing it has entered into exclusive negotiations with Flacks Group  for the contemplated divestment of its assets producing kaolin, ground calcium carbonate (“GCC”), precipitated calcium carbonate (“PCC”), and talc, which primarily serve the paper markets in North Americas, South America, Asia and Europe.

The future company formed by all these industrial sites, kaolin mine, port and logistic hubs is foreseen to start its operation under a new brand in the course of 2024. It will offer mineral solutions for industries worldwide. Currently serving mostly the paper and board markets , the new company will use its global footprint, unique assets and longstanding know-how to develop new business opportunities and foster innovation. Sustainability is a core value of this company.

With an annual revenue of around 350 million euros in 2023, this activity will employ about 1000 employees. The Company needs to reinforce the existing teams to operate as a standalone organization but also to meet its ambitious development plans.

Role overview:

Responsible for overseeing the environmental performance of BA industrial and mining operations and for developing and implementing environmental strategies towards sustainable development

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensures industrial and mining operations of the BA are run at least in compliance with local environmental regulations, best-in-class industry practices and Imerys guidelines
  • Acts as the BA champion for sustainable development / environmental programs
  • Assesses / Analyzes / Collates environmental performance data for internal stakeholders, customers and regulatory bodies
  • Maintains permits as per local regulations, in coordination with local Hub Directors and Legal department
  • Responds to inquiries / concerns related to Environment
  • Performs regular environment audits to monitor emissions, contaminations, waste management, renewable energy, other pollutions
  • Develops and implements, in collaboration with Hub Directors, environmental strategies to reduce contaminations and emissions. Sets targets and action plans. Develop budget and timelines for environmental operations
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with relevant changes in environment trends and legislations
  • Supports BA Segments and Supply Chain teams to identify customer expectations in sustainable development / environmental practices
  • Key interfaces: ensures tight coordination with BA Industrial VP, Hub Operations Directors, Imerys CoE, BA Segments, BA Business Planning

Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineer or equivalent. Degree in environmental-related subject (environmental sciences, biosciences, physics, environmental health)
  • >10 years experience in Environmental management
  • Strong international exposure
  • Excellent communication in English

Skills & Person Specification

  • Good knowledge of environmental issues and relevant legislations
  • Excellent ability to positively influence teams in a matrix organization
  • Strong project leadership
  • Able to organize training paths
  • Commercial awareness: ability to work within commercial constraints / anticipate customers’ expectations
