Our options for whitening and polishing toothpastes
We offer a range of natural, innovative mineral grades for the oral care market. Our minerals have been carefully engineered to provide natural whitening and gentle polishing in toothpastes.
Kaolin, perlite and calcium carbonate are ideal natural whitening, gentle abrasion and polishing agents for toothpaste, proven to not harm teeth.
Our perlite-based product, ImerCare® PerlWhite 19, has been engineered to obtain optimized particle shape and size, making it an ideal and gentle polishing agent for boosting toothpaste. Toothpastes containing ImerCare PerlWhite 19 clean the surface of teeth without scratching, minimizing damage to enamel, dentin, root surfaces and gum tissue.
Where available, ImerCare® KaoBright / Kaopolite 1149 USP kaolin has been designed to give the best balance between cleaning performance and enamel abrasivity. Compared to commercial toothpaste that contains hydrous silica, toothpaste based on ImerCare KaoBright kaolin shows about half the abrasivity, which delivers long-term health and durability benefits for teeth, while still demonstrating excellent cleaning properties.
ImerCare® Oral-3C is a natural ground calcium carbonate (GCC), derived from 100% recycled mineral content, engineered to combine gentle abrasiveness, whiteness and opacity in toothpaste formulations. It is fully compliant with food additive criteria (E170). ImerCare® Oral-3C offers a natural alternative to synthetic whitening pigments, such as titanium dioxide.
All our cosmetic products are natural, high-quality, chemically-inert, and offer good skin tolerance. They are not treated with chemicals during processing and they can be used in cosmetic products that comply with cosmetic directive regulation (EC) n° 1223/2009.
ImerCare® PerlWhite 19 is Cosmos approved. Kaopolite 1149 USP kaolin is manufactured under cGMP manufacturing guidelines. Certificates of origin and additional documentation are available upon request.
Kaolin
Kaolin is a rock from which the clay mineral kaolinite is derived. This one has been used for millennia as the principal ingredient in porcelain tableware. Today Imerys kaolins bring critical properties to a host of end applications ranging from paper to paints, fiberglass to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
In the pursuit of healthy white teeth, Imerys has found that toothpaste that combines kaolin and delicately engineered perlite provides highly effective dental care and meets consumers’ preference for natural ingredients.
Imerys Kaolins de Bretagne in southwest Brittany hosted an open day to commemorate its 120th anniversary, bringing together the general public, site employees and their families, customers, representatives of local associations, local elected officials and other important regional stakeholders. The day also marked another significant milestone for the company's future, since it coincides with the renewal in 2023 of the prefectural order authorizing Imerys to continue its mining activities at Kaolin de Bretagne for a further 28 years.
The mineral perlite is an effective replacement for microbeads in scrubs and shower gels – not only for its exfoliating performance, but for reducing plastic pollution in oceans.
