Recycled plastics

A natural boost for recycled plastics
With increasing global legislation, the planet needs better ways to recycle plastic. Polyethylene and polypropylene are some of the most abundant plastics around, however they are hard to recycle, even for post-industrial purposes. This is because they’re immiscible, which means they don’t mix together well, even after processing. This can lead to breaks and cracks in finished plastic products made of recycled polyethylene and polypropylene.
To address this issue, we developed ImerLink™, an innovative engineered solution designed specifically to make it simpler to recycle polyolefins like polyethylene and polypropylene. Using ImerLink, recycled polyolefin materials that would otherwise not be compatible can now be processed without any difficulty and then used in higher value applications that meet key performance and cost requirements.
Using ImerLink, recyclers don’t need to sort different polyolefins before recycling them, and can now use mixed waste to create high-quality recycled plastic.
We also offer a range of other solutions to enhance the properties and costs of recycled plastics. Calcium carbonates, including our ImerCarb™ and PolCarb™ range, provide cost optimization while improving optical and mechanical properties, while micas (including our Suzorite® range) are ideal for reinforcing recycled nylons, where they improve stiffness and shrinkage.
Steagreen® can help you take a step towards better recycled plastics. It’s an engineered talc* designed specifically to restore mechanical properties to recycled plastics, enabling their use in more highly demanding applications.
In recycled polyamide, our minerals make excellent cost-effective alternatives to glass fiber, while talcs can restore mechanical properties, improve heat resistance and deliver recycled plastics that can be used for more demanding engineering applications.
Our talcs restore mechanical properties such as:
- Stiffness
- Dimensional stability
- Heat resistance
